Feb. 24—The Section 1, Class 3A and Section 1-4A girls basketball playoffs tip off Wednesday. Here are five players to watch in each of those tournaments:
Ohm has led the Bears to a No. 8 ranking in state Class 3A. The Marist University Division I recruit has done it by offering some of everything. That includes 22.5 points per game on averages of 60% on 2-pointers and 35% on 3's. She also averages 2.7 assists, 5.7 rebounds and 3.3 steals per game. Ohm is a candidate for Miss Basketball in Minnesota.
Last year's Post Bulletin All-Area Player of the Year has come through with another incredible season as a senior. She's averaging 23 points on 57% shooting, including 50% on 3-point goals for the No. 2 Class 3A ranked Tigers. She's also averaging 4 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Shindelar, also a Miss Basketball candidate in Minnesota, will play next season at Division I South Dakota State University.
Stewartville's star left-handed 6-foot forward is as team-orientated a player as is imaginable, so often passing up shots to find somebody a better one. She's still averaging 12.5 points per game on 49% shooting (43% on 3-pointers). Rath is good for 4 assists, 7 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Like Audrey Shindelar, she is a candidate for Miss Basketball.
This has been a breakthrough season for the 6-foot sophomore point guard who plays with force and precision. She's averaging 12 points (51% field goals, 40% 3-pointers), 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 2 steals per game. Shindelar has made a large leap this season.
Mostad is a top-level shooter and averages 13.4 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals per game. Her specialty is shooting 3-pointers where she knocks them down at a 38% rate.
Dyer, a 5-foot-11 sophomore, is having a standout season and is regarded as one of top sophomores in the state. She's averaging 19 points and 8 rebounds per game and shooting 64% on 2-point shots and 35% on 3's for the fifth-ranked Spartans (Class 4A).
Mills is another of the state's top sophomores. Already a four-year starter she leads the team in scoring at 21 points per game. She's shooting 63% on 2-pointers, 41% on 3's. The point guard is also good for four steals per game.
An all-around excellent athlete like Dyer and Mills, McLaughlin is averaging 12 points per game. The junior guard is shooting 62% on 2-pointers and 30% on 3's.
Wilson is one of the more highly regarded post players in the state and the sophomore has already been offered a scholarship by Minnesota. Wilson is a powerful 6-foot-4. She is averaging 14 points, 10 rebounds and nearly 4 assists per game.
A 6-foot power forward, Pahl is an athletic player who gets to the rim with regularity. She averages 14 points, 6.3 rebounds, 2 assists and 2.2 steals per game. Pahl will play next year at Minnesota State University, Mankato.
