“There was a moment…” – What Cole Palmer did that let Chelsea fans know he was back

Cole Palmer went from being one of the most outrageously consistent goalscorers in Europe to a 1,162 minute goal drought, so when he notched a penalty on Sunday you can imagine the relief.

On the London is Blue podcast they talked about the attacker’s performance, and noted that he had been about more than just a late consolation penalty.

Palmer’s numbers reflect a much improved showing​

“Palmer was tied for most touches, most passes in the final third, tied for most touches in the opposition box. Most shots, most chances created, most interceptions, most shots on target. I’m just super happy for him,” presenter Dan Dormer said.

“There was a moment in the first half where I saw the light flick on again for the first time in a while, and then he started trying more and more passes. That was an indicator to me that oh – ‘he’s feeling himself again and he feels good.’ And obviously the penalty is great, it’s a perfect penalty it’s unsavable. But it just looked like he was not playing with a weighted vest around himself anymore,” pundit Nick Verlaney added.

The magic moment where Palmer turned it on and turned the corner​

Chelsea scored just two minutes into the game, and a major part of that goal was Palmer’s movement that sent Curtis Jones to the shops and broke apart the Reds’ defensive structure.

We’re not sure if that’s the “moment” that Verlaney is talking about, but for us that was when we knew the 22 year old had turned the corner. Then we just had 88 minutes to sit back and enjoy the show.

Let’s hope he keeps up this momentum into the next game.
