“He has improved” – Enzo Maresca’s ludicrous logic insults fans’ intelligence

The good news from Chelsea’s win over Tottenham on Thursday was a satisfying victory over our rivals, The bad news from the win was that Wesley Fofana missed out with a surprise injury, and Romeo Lavia was only on the bench, despite having previously been touted as ready to return.

When it came to discussing the Belgian in the press conference ahead of the game against Brentford this Sunday, Maresca gave the most weak defence imaginable of the catastrophe of the £60m signing from Southampton’s Chelsea career so far.

“If you compare Romeo’s games this season to last, he has already improved. The target with Romeo is just to keep him fit as much as we can and next season to play more games than this season,” Maresca said.

He compared him to Reece James, who is being managed after long injury problems:

“[Like with James], we know in this moment [Lavia] cannot play every three days but hopefully soon he can start to play every three days. But the main target with him, Romeo and Wes is to keep them fit because we know how important they are for us.”

Every three days? My friend, Lavia is struggling to start every 3 months.

To be clear – he played in one game last season. He could have come on as a sub twice this season and beaten that record. It’s just a bizarre way of dealing with the situation, from our point of view. Maresca could be positive and hopeful if he wants, but at least be honest. We would certainly appreciate that more.
