“Definition of Insufferable”: Stefanie Dolson’s T-Shirt in Response to Sophie Cunningham Invites Bold Remarks from Anti-Trans Activist

Indiana Fever guard Sophie Cunningham has carved out a role as a spark plug off the bench for Stephanie White’s team. But while she is improving her game and meshing well with the Fever, she has also been the center of attention for social issues in the WNBA. In particular, onlookers have been calling out Cunningham for her recent comments on transgender people. Cunningham’s comments have divided the women’s basketball world. On Tuesday, Seattle Storm center Stefanie Dolson wore a shirt before playing Indiana that read, “Trans rights are human rights,” seemingly a shot against Cunningham. Conservative political analyst Riley Gaines, a well-known anti-trans activist, called out Dolson on X/Twitter the next day.

“It’s almost hilarious because I can guarantee you she’s a self-proclaimed feminist, yet she’s wearing a shirt demanding more rights for men lol The definition of insufferable,” Gaines wrote.

During a recent interview with ESPN, Cunningham spoke about her political views and the “MAGA Barbie” moniker onlookers have assigned to her. In the process, Cunningham shared that she believes transgender people should not be allowed to play in women’s sports.

In another post on X/Twitter, a user called out both Riley Gaines and Sophie Cunningham. While being called out for being transphobic, the post also claimed that Gaines and Cunningham looked alike. Gaines reposted the post on her own page with a caption that pokes fun at the user for not having a profile picture of themselves on their profile.

While Gaines continues to support Cunningham’s political and social views, Cunningham recently returned to action after this year’s WNBA All-Star Weekend. In the Indiana Fever’s 105-95 win over the Seattle Storm, Cunningham dropped 11 points, five rebounds and two assists in 24 minutes off the bench.
