“Alabama Was Looking Like This 10 Years Ago”: CFB World Reacts As Notre Dame Unveils $100,000,000 Training Facility

Notre Dame officially opened its brand-new football facility for its players and coaches last week. Earlier today, they posted a four-minute video, giving fans a virtual tour of the $100 million facility named Jack and Kathy Shields Family Hall.

The new home for Fighting Irish football received a mixed response from fans. Some loved it and consider it a huge step in the right direction, while others compared it with other programs to diminish its value.

“This is nice, but Alabama was looking like this over 10 years ago,” a fan wrote.

“Not even close to North Western, or Alabama, or Texas. This is super wanna be Oregon falling short to a HS program,” a fan wrote.


“What BK said wasn’t possible in 12 seasons Freeman and company have gotten it done in 5 seasons,” a fan wrote.


“How could anyone not want to be a part of something this exceptional. I’m sorry I love all teams and schools but this is just the coolest video, showing the greatest place to be in America as a student-athlete that wants to win,” a fan wrote.


“Hilarious being a Penn state fan and seeing everyone pearl clutching over focusing on honor and tradition and meanwhile Notre Freaking Dame is out here moving like LSU north smh,” a fan wrote.


“Absolutely unreal. This is so unbelievably cool! The investment into this football program is second to none. I’m so proud to be a Notre Dame fan!!! Wow!” a fan wrote.


According to the Notre Dame website, the state-of-the-art facility is equipped with everything the team needs, from a two-level, all-team auditorium and media innovation spaces to an equipment facility featuring body-scanning and fabrication technology.

Notre Dame Head Coach Wanted an All-Purpose Facility​

A great team facility becomes a recruiting tool for programs, as it attracts players during official visits. Although that’s the primary focus of teams during the offseason, Notre Dame head coach Marcus Freeman wanted something different.

Freeman wasn’t interested in developing a new facility solely to use it as a recruitment tool.

“I was very intentional about it,” he told Irish Sports Daily. “That was one of the strong inputs that I have. I don’t want anything that’s just for recruiting, or that doesn’t serve our players. Make it multi-purpose, and it can help them if they utilize it the right way. If it helps you as individuals, it can help our program.”

The new Notre Dame facility hopefully lives up to his expectations.
