'Sounds Like Somebody Is Mad' — Cowboys Legend Defends Jaylen Brown After 76ers Star's Smartness Gets Labeled A 'Disease'
The Dallas Cowboys have had many big names who have earned the privilege of wearing the star on the sides of their helmets over the years. Some of them are naturally more outspoken than others.
Now, one former Cowboys icon is crossing over to the basketball world to offer his opinion on a recent blockbuster trade involving an All-NBA talent.
Cowboys’ Dez Bryant Hates Jaylen Brown Narrative
Recently, the Boston Celtics shocked the NBA world by trading Jaylen Brown, a five-time All-Star, to the Philadelphia 76ers. Days after the trade commenced, analysts still haven’t stopped discussing the move, trying to figure out what caused the Celtics to part with one of their very best players.
One report from Colin Cowherd even suggested that the Celtics made the trade because Brown believed he was the “smartest” one in the room at all times.
“I had two NBA sources… two people in the league, one an executive, one a scout, say that Jaylen Brown has — it’s a disease,” Cowherd said. “He suddenly thinks he’s the smartest guy in every room he’s in… You make a lot of money, suddenly you’re absolutely sure, you don’t wanna listen to your bosses, you don’t wanna listen to consultants, you don’t wanna listen to teammates.”

Now, former All-Pro wide receiver Dez Bryant has chimed in on the matter. According to Bryant, “somebody is mad” because Brown is such a cerebral person, and now they’re trying to attack him for it.
“Sounds like somebody is mad because JB knows how to think and move for himself,” Bryant wrote. “Future athletes understand that whenever you go against the narrative..this is what happens… but times are changing. JB is doing it right.”

There’s nothing wrong with being smart and having confidence in your convictions. Bryant clearly doesn’t feel like Brown’s potential mindset is an issue. Nor did the 76ers, who packaged Paul George, two first-round picks, and two seconds to land Brown.
As for Brown, he probably can’t help but sit back and laugh at this false narrative being spread about him. No one seems to be able to figure out why the Celtics traded such a polished player. If anything, Brown can use all this backlash as motivation to help the 76ers finally win the NBA Finals after winning one of his own in Boston.
After all, Brown has to like his new surroundings, landing on a team with a former MVP in Joel Embiid, plus a tantalizing youth movement with Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe. Who knows? It just might end up being the smartest trade of the offseason.
