The San Antonio Spurs get one from the New York Knicks at the Madison Square Garden after coach Mike Brown’s team lost the last two quarters by, 58-47. The loss came at a time when the nation is all eyes on the game due to the presence of President Donald Trump.
The Knicks opportunity to get a comfortable 3-0 lead in the NBA Finals has gone away after they lost to their visitors, `111-115. Jalen Brunson played a good game based on his own standards as he finished with 32 points, five rebounds, and five assists. OG Anunoby had 28 points.
Karl-Anthony Towns, who was regarded as the best player in first two games, was limited to 11 points and eight rebounds although he had three eight assists.
Towns struggled and Victor Wembanyama played a great game. Not a good combination for the Knicks. The 2026 Defensive Player of the Year had a good all-around game, finishing with 32 points, eight rebounds, six assists, two steals, and three blocks.
Wemby’s supporting crew also showed up with everyone on the starting five scoring in double digits. Stephon Castle had 23 while the rest had at least 11 points. Dylan Harper had 13 points of the bench. Castle provided the two free throws that sealed the game.
Team play also shows the Knicks were outplayed by the young Western Conference champions. The Spurs had 28 assists against the Knicks’ 18. The former also had more free throws, 32 against 22.
It was a close game but to Brown, there’s one area that made the ultimate difference compared to the first two wins. He emphasized that his Knicks did not lose because of the free throw discrepancy but he is aghast by the difference. He said that he’s never seen anything like that in an NBA Finals game.
“There were opportunities for foul to be called, to at least try to even the free throws out. Now we didn’t play good. San Antonio played great. We could have played better,” Brown told reporters after the game.

“There are a lot of things that we didn’t do that we’ve done in Game 1 and Game 2 but to go 24 free throw attempts in the second half, that’s 48 per game if you think the way that they called the second half compared to [our] eight? All the shots we took we got fouled [just] four times roughly?”
“I don’t complain much. I never thought I’d see that in an NBA Finals.”
Brown’s press conference was played during the Inside the NBA coverage and host Charles Barkley thought the Knicks’ coach comment is unnecessary.
“Referees gonna miss some calls. That happens. Officiating did not lose them this game.”
