‘Unbreakable’ – Conor McGregor gives surgery update and reveals NFL and Tom Brady inspiration

Conor McGregor’s return to the UFC did not go to plan, as he suffered an injury less than two minutes into his fight.

The Irishman faced off with Max Holloway at UFC 329 when his knee seemed to give way following some attempted high kicks.

That defeat marked his first appearance in the UFC since he broke his leg in a clash with Dustin Poirier in 2021, and he quickly announced after taking on Holloway that he was going to undergo surgery.

Conor McGregor gives surgery update after UFC 329​

Now, less than a month after his return, McGregor has taken to his official Instagram page to give an update on how the surgery went.

In the caption of the post, he wrote: “Surgery done. Knee repaired. The doubters can keep talking. I didn’t run from the pain. I walked straight into it. Now the real work begins. Comeback season starts now. No shortcuts. No excuses. Just the will to rise again.”

Meanwhile, in the video itself, McGregor shared that he is taking inspiration from other notable athletes who have suffered injuries similar to his in the past and returned.

They included NFL legend Tom Brady, who tore his ACL and MCL in his left knee back in 2008.

McGregor said: “What’s up folks, the Mac is back, baby. My knee is repaired, surgery was a success, and I’m on the road to recovery.

“That should tell you all you need to know about my mindset. Straight into surgery, knee repaired, and on the road. Let’s go.

“I want to give a shout out to Dominick Cruz, who returned from multiple ACLs to recapture his bantamweight crown.”

He continued: “Other notables in other sports, NFL. Tom Brady done it… Peters [Adrian Peterson] done it. These are my motivation here, especially the fighting boys.

“Unstoppable baby, my mindset is unstoppable, unbreakable.”
