Saquon Barkley has been left baffled by how the Philadelphia Eagles acquired wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks this offseason.

Significant changes to the Eagles’ wide receiver room have unfolded over recent months following the exit of A.J. Brown.

Howie Roseman appears to have worked his magic again as the Eagles drafted Makai Lemon with the 20 overall pick, but it is another acquisition that has Barkley raving.

In a trade with the Green Bay Packers, the Eagles secured Wicks for a 2026 fifth-round pick and a 2027 sixth-round pick.

Just a matter of months into his time in Philly, Wicks has already seriously impressed Barkley with what he’s been showing during training camp.

What Saquon Barkley said about Philadelphia Eagles WR Dontayvion Wicks

Wicks was a fifth-round pick for the Packers during the 2023 draft and returned 11 touchdowns during his three years in Wisconsin.

Although not a direct replacement for Brown, Barkley has been amazed by the levels of production from Wicks despite the relatively low compensation spent to acquire him.

“Tay is a steal. I don’t like speaking too high because I don’t want to put too much pressure, but this guy can handle it, and I love everything that he’s about,” Barkley told Kay Adams.

“Shout out to Howie again. I don’t know how we got him for whatever round we traded for, but he just brings a different type of energy for the wide receiver group.

“He’s not just a violent route runner and violent catching the ball, but he also puts his face in there and blocks at a high level. I’m excited to have him on the team.”

Wicks has been unable to improve on his rookie season return of 581 yards, with his following two seasons returning 415 and 332 yards respectively.

Despite the downward trend, it is apparent that the 25-year-old is impressing in Philadelphia, and there is potential for him to grow in Sean Mannion’s scheme.

Barkley lavished high praise on the wide receiver, with a clear belief that Wicks is someone who can improve the Eagles ahead of the new season.
