The Indiana Fever took down the Chicago Sky in overtime on Thursday for the team’s second win in a row. The first overall picks in the 2022 and 2024 WNBA drafts, Aliyah Boston and Caitlin Clark, turned in dominant performances.

Clark erupted for 32 points and 10 assists, with Boston going for 34 points and 12 rebounds, becoming the first teammates in the league’s 30-year history to record 30-point double-doubles in the same game.

However, it wasn’t all smooth sailing on the evening. At one point, frustrated with not being able to draw a foul and get to the line, Clark puped her fist and let a referree hear it, earning both a technical foul and the ire of sports analyst Jason Whitlock.

“Caitlin Clark was a really hard watch yesterday,” Whitlock posted on X. “She’s untouched here, throws a tantrum, draws a tech. Her body language all game awful. Foul-baiting as much as SGA. Hard watch.”

Another sports media personality and analyst, Dan Dakich, seemed to agree.

“I thought she was maturing … same ole same ole nonsense,” Dakich responded.

Regardless of whatever noise there may be surrounding the exchange, Clark feels it worked out just as she wanted. She told reporters in her post-game media session that the technical foul was “definitely deserved, but I wanted it, because after that, I got to the free-throw line more.”

It appears that getting the technical was evidence of Clark maturing, and rather than the wild outburst it appeared to be to most fans, it was a calculated move to help her team.
