MORGANTOWN, W.VA. (FOX 44) — Turnovers turned tumultuous for the Bears on Sunday, turning the ball over 30 times in a 70-60 loss to No. 22 West Virginia on the road.
The Bears opened with the game’s first five points and held WVU to 21.1% shooting in the first quarter, but early free throws and a 9‑0 WVU run to close the period put BU in a 15‑9 hole that proved crucial.
Baylor answered in the second with a 7‑0 burst sparked by five points from Yuting Deng and a basket from Marcayla Johnson. A jumper from Taliah Scott capped a nine‑point stretch that briefly gave the Bears the lead, but West Virginia responded with eight straight to take a 31‑25 advantage into halftime.
The Mountaineers pushed their lead to 14 in the third as Baylor went without a field goal for over five minutes. Darianna Littlepage‑Buggs ended the drought at the buzzer with a putback to bring BU within 10 points heading to the fourth.
WVU rebuilt a 15‑point margin early in the final frame, and although Baylor produced steady scoring at the free-throw line and added late buckets from Scott, Marcayla Johnson and Littlepage‑Buggs, the Mountaineers maintained control to close out the game.
The Bears held WVU to 34.3% from the floor and 27.8% from deep, but West Virginia attempted 24 more shots behind its turnover advantage. Baylor shot 27‑for‑32 (84.4%) at the line and 29.8% from the field.
Scott led BU with 18 points, going 6‑of‑7 at the stripe. Bella Fontleroy followed with 14, buoyed by a 9‑for‑10 mark at the line. Littlepage‑Buggs added 12 points and eight rebounds, Marcayla Johnson scored eight on a perfect 6‑for‑6 day at the line and Deng finished with six, including a 3 during Baylor’s second‑quarter push.
Baylor stays on the road to face off against Cincinnati on Wednesday, February 4th at 5:30 p.m.
