Jakub Menšík has booked a spot in the fourth round of the Canadian Open for the first time in his career. Although the Czech cruised to a straightforward victory in the third round, he was forced to contend with an unexpected obstacle in the form of a disruptive spectator, which sparked an amusing moment in the match.
Why Jakub Menšík Was Frustrated with a Canadian Open Spectator
Following his disappointing second-round exit at Wimbledon, Menšík kicked off his North American hardcourt swing at the Mubadala DC Open. Although he commenced his campaign with a win over Trevor Svajda, he fell short against Brandon Nakashima in the second round and was ousted from the tournament.
Menšík then entered the Canadian Open as the No. 13 seed, receiving a first-round bye. Taking on Jacob Fearnley in his opening match in the second round, he claimed a 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 victory.
The Czech faced Térence Atmane in the third round. He made a strong start to the contest by clinching the opening set 7-5. He also secured a break of serve in the second set and served for the win at 5-4.
However, Menšík was distracted by a disruptive spectator who was repeatedly shouting advice from the stands. After the 20-year-old approached chair umpire Greg Allensworth to raise his complaints, Allensworth issued an amusing warning to put an end to the interruptions.
“Sir, at the back of the court, the players have fantastic coaches that they pay to get them through the match, so please stop. Thank you,” Allensworth said.
Menšík maintained his composure to seal a stellar 7-5, 6-4 victory in one hour and 41 minutes, advancing to the fourth round of the Canadian Open.

Up next, Jakub Menšík is set to lock horns with Botic van de Zandschulp, marking their first tour-level encounter. If Menšík emerges victorious over the Dutchman, he will face the winner of the match between No. 5 seed Ben Shelton and No. 22 seed João Fonseca in a blockbuster quarterfinal showdown.
Menšík is on the hunt for his second ATP Masters 1000 title at the Canadian Open, having won the biggest title of his career at the 2025 Miami Open after triumphing over Novak Djokovic in the final.
