‘Not until the World Cup’ – Barcelona star Lamine Yamal not taking any fitness risks

Lamine Yamal wasn’t taking any risks with his fitness on Sunday after dropping into watch some King’s League action before Barcelona’s game with Real Betis.

The teenager is currently sidelined with a hamstring problem but is working hard on his recovery ahead of World Cup 2026 with Spain.

Yamal was asked if he’d take the ‘president’s penalty’ for his La Capital CF team in their Kings League semi-final clash with Rayo de Barcelona but was happy to turn down the opportunity.

“I won’t touch a ball until the World Cup,” he said with a smile. Of course Yamal sustained his current injury while taking a penalty for Barcelona against Celta Vigo.

Spain are due to take on Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay in the group stages of the World Cup, with their first fixture scheduled for June 15th.

There’s been speculation that Yamal won’t be used in the early stages of the tournament, with manager Luis de la Fuente set to introduce him slowly to avoid any risk of relapse and ensure he’s at his best for the knockout rounds.
