The 2026 FIFA World Cup has captivated the world. Thousands of fans from across the globe have flown to the United States, Mexico and Canada to attend games. But some fans are having difficulty actually getting their tickets from third party platforms.

One man shared a story of how he purportedly got iced out of seeing Norway and Senegal play on June 22. Antonio (@typeshitchronicles) says he originally purchased a ticket to see the two teams play at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

Then he says he changed his mind and put them up for sale on StubHub. Eventually, he realized the ticket may not sell, so he went back to the platform to reclaim the ticket.

Despite this, he never got his ticket back, Antonio claims. He says he didn’t get any email confirmation that his ticket was returned, nor did he hear back from StubHub.

As of this writing, Antonio’s first video has more than 23,000 views.

StubHub acknowledged The Big Lead’s inquiry but has not provided comment as of this writing.

One man’s World Cup StubHub dilemma

Antonio said his World Cup ticket cost $1,495. He claims he listed it on StubHub as a way of recuperating some money.

Days went by, and Antonio’s ticket didn’t sell, he says. So he claims he reduced the price. Finally, Antonio says he made the decision to take the ticket back and go to the game after all.

So he purportedly deleted the listing and called a representative to reclaim it. Antonio says he recorded the video transfer of the ticket when he originally put it for sale on StubHub. He says he also kept a copy of the email transferring his ticket and other documentation tracing the purchase to him.

StubHub’s policy states that sellers can “edit, deactivate, or delete [their] listing at any point before [their] tickets sell.” When a person deletes their listing rather than deactivating it, they “permanently remove it” from StubHub.

However, when Antonio checked his FIFA account after deleting the listing, he says he noticed that StubHub did not transfer the ticket back.

“ I check my FIFA app. Nothing. Nothing from StubHub either. Like, I was getting all my StubHub emails. I was literally getting all my StubHub emails,” Antonio said.

Antonio didn’t respond to a direct message.

What happened to his tickets?

As Antonio started to get ready for the game, he says he realized he still didn’t have a copy of his ticket or any information from StubHub. He called StubHub’s support, he says. Antonio claims a StubHub representative said they were opening a case.

As gametime approached, Antonio says he called StubHub again and received little information regarding his ticket. Nevertheless, he headed to MetLife Stadium around 5:30 p.m. for the 8 p.m match. Throughout his trip, he claims StubHub assured him that they would send the ticket back so he could use it.

“ So then I call them at, like, [6 p.m.] or something, right? … I ask them to speak to a supervisor. They put me on hold for an hour,” Antonio said.

Per his retelling, the supervisor did “damage control” and blamed a system error.

Antonio says he told the supervisor that he would bill StubHub the full amount for the ticket and his train rides.

In a later update, however, Antonio claims he got no response on his refund request. He says StubHub hasn’t responded to any of his inquiries, despite the company posting a comment on his first video that says, “We are really sorry to hear about your experience. Your feelings are super valid for this situation. We’d like to look into your case in more detail to make things right. Can you please dm us your order id and email so we can investigate this?”

“StubHub gave me the runaround”

Some viewers claim that they’re in the same situation as Antonio.

“Don’t hold your breath on that refund, my refund for another event started on May 28,” one wrote. “It’s now June 23, no refund. Filed a claim at Paypal the week after Stubhub gave me the runaround. Still anxiously waiting for the hundreds of dollars that I spent on one ticket. The row number on the ticket that I bought was different from what was transferred to me. They deserve a class action.”

“They did a similar thing to me last year for a soccer game,” another person alleged. “Listed 2 tickets but then sold them to a friend so I deleted the listing. Hours later they still sold the tickets. Mind you when I deleted the listing the tickets didn’t appear as listed in my portal. I spoke to different people for 2 days to resolve the issue which was on their end and they wouldn’t budge, said I still had to pay for similar tickets to the person who brought them.”

“Take them to court. There are a lot people out there in the same situation!!!” a third urged.
