After months and arguably years of speculation, the Milwaukee Bucks have finally traded franchise cornerstone Giannis Antetokounmpo, sending him to the Miami Heat for what can only be described as a king’s ransom.
“BLOCKBUSTER: The Milwaukee Bucks are trading franchise icon Giannis Antetokounmpo and Bobby Portis to the Miami Heat for Tyler Herro, Kel’el Ware, Jaime Jaquez Jr., Kasparas Jakucionis, 3 first-round picks (including No. 13), 1 pick swap and 1 second-rounder, sources tell ESPN,” ESPN’s senior NBA insider, Shams Charania, reported late on Monday night.
The Heat are sending to Milwaukee unprotected first-rounders in 2031 and 2033 along with No. 13, a pick swap in 2030 and a 2033 second-rounder, according to sources.
The trade does not include any additional teams — it is a one-to-one move, sources said — but both the Heat… https://t.co/qsxVhBh9gp

Things have been rocky between Antetokounmpo and the Bucks, the franchise he’s spent his entire career with up to this point, over the last few seasons as the team has struggled to find the same caliber of success it did in 2021, when he led Milwaukee to an NBA title. He was also reportedly frustrated by the franchise’s decision to part ways with star point guard Damian Lillard, who spent the year recovering from an Achilles injury..
Antetokounmpo averaged 27.6 points and 9.8 rebounds this season, but the Bucks failed to make the playoffs, finishing as the 11th seed in the Eastern Conference.
The NBA world was nothing short of stunned by the trade and the haul Milwaukee received for its superstar. Here are reactions from the NBA’s community online.
Star hunting finally pays off for the Miami Heat. Giannis, Bam, Wiggins, Davion Mitchell, Portis…and what else? They gave up a lot of bodies. Leaves their roster pretty shallow. Gonna be fascinating to see how the Heat complete this team. https://t.co/kBIoW5JdmM
