Atletico Madrid CEO Enrique Cerezo says his club were surprised to hear Julian Alvarez say he wanted a transfer away from the club while at the World Cup with Argentina.
Alvarez spoke out after Argentina’s win over Austria, telling the world that “the best thing for everyone is a transfer” as he wants to “fulfill a dream.”
Cerezo has been asked what he thinks of Alvarez’s statement and continues to insist the forward will not be sold this summer.
“It caught us by surprise and we have done what we had to do, say that he is an Atlético de Madrid player and that we have no offers from anyone or anything, and that even if there were offers, we do not want to sell him,” he told RNE.
Atletico have since filed a complaint with FIFA and the RFEF against Barcelona and their pursuit of Alvarez and have urged the two organisations to take action against the Catalans.
However, Barcelona are still expected to continue efforts to sign Alvarez and are expected to make a bid of up to 130 million euros for the attacker after the World Cup.
