When you draft children, well, you get children--with only rare exceptions.

And that is because their window is now. The real question is "Who is more likely to help this team win a championship this year? Nurkic and the depth they got in this deal or Ayton?" They chose Nurkic and the depth. Kinda hard to argue with that.

    Nurk thread

I am convinced that the primary issue with Ayton being more efficient around the basket is the surrounding teammates. Ayton is still better, but the difference is not as great as it seems. And I am not a big Nurkic fan. I am just trying to be objective. Ayton scored a lot on OOps. Not sure...

OK. Stats. How about per36 for their careers. Ayto--pts 19.6, tov 2.1, blk 1.2, ast 1.9, reb 12.2, ft .755%, fg .597% Nurkic--18.3, 3.2, 1.7, 3.4, 12.8, .671, .502. Aytons numbers are better, but not blow away numbers by any means. Ayton has better scoring percentage because of the players...

Uh. Not exactly what I said. I said he will put his shoulder down in his post-up game and bump his way to the hoop. He did it often in the highlights against Ayton and others. Ayton did not do that. It's one bully type of move that we never saw from Ayton. One bully-type move does not...

I will say this once, and then forget I ever said it. I wish somehow we could have ended up with Jrue this summer instead of Beal.

    Nurk thread

Trying to improve my attitude on Nurkic. So I have been watching everything I can on him. I understand highlights are selective and deceiving. This one below was helpful. Looks like Nurk is willing to lower his shoulder and drive defenders back. We did not get that with DA. He is pretty...

    AYTON TRADED!

Very young players don't always turn out the way you expect. The NBA's fixation with younger is better hurts the draft. Younger is more of a gamble, plain and simple.

Can we pick up the one that doesn't make it? I have a hunch Monty will choose the wrong guy.

Actually Allen, Little, and Watanabe all three play with Okogie type of intensity. I think Yuta has an outside chance at that 5th starter position because of his size, constant motion, defensive intensity, shooting, and most of all his chemistry with KD.

Wolfley is such a homer. He makes me sound like Bickley. Yeah. Nurk wants to be here. That is encouraging. He has lost some weight. That is encouraging. Maybe he will stay a little more healthy. His injury history is a litany of knee, back, leg, lower back, adductor, calf, etc. I am...

Grayson Allen is a pretty good ball-handler. I think he could initiate the offense with the second crew.

    The Grayson Allen thread

This is a double-edged sword. He was asked this question directly at the media day, and I was pretty impressed with his answer. He owned his play at Duke. Admitted his immaturity. Pointed to how much better--but not perfect--he is doing in the NBA. Said he is going to try to live the rep...

That is why I included that disclaimer about the third players in some being marginal.

    AYTON TRADED!

Is the draft itself overrated? Especially because of how young these players are coming out? When you are drafting 18-19 year olds you are playing the lottery, and not just the NBA lottery.

Yes. Its me, but I didn't come up with it. It is a fairly commonly held view around the NBA. I would love to be wrong. Maybe Vogel can do something with him. Ranked 19 here. https://www.sportingnews.com/us/nba/news/nba-center-rankings-2022-23-starters/lztnsmu0t1voeubckyvfcvnj PER ranks 32...

These are in no particular order. BTW, I said "Big Three" but I understand that the third player in some of these is marginal. Book, Durant, Beal Holiday, Tatum, Brown Lillard, Giannis, Middleton James, Davis, Russell Jokic, Murray, Porter (Gordon?) Butler, Bam, Herro It seems that some of...

    AYTON TRADED!

Ayton will dominate this board for years, maybe decades to come. He will do well in Portland and I think people here will be highly disappointed with Nurkic. Nurkic has a rep for being as hit-and-miss on the court as Ayton, except Nurkic looks for his own shot more, and is less efficient. He...
