Time to DFA if we can't find some sucker to take him before the deadline.

Baseball has turned into a wuss sport. The inning should be over. Sewald needs to be let go tomorrow.

Yup, I'm not a fan of the blocking the plate rules. I want Pete Rose - Ray Fosse plays at the plate.

The Torey experience in full effect tonight.

Removes Waldschmidt yet again for an inferior hitter and defender in Barossa. Does Barossa have some incriminating photos of Torey at this point?

Brings in Sewald and lets him get absolutely lit for 5 straight hits and doesn't get anyone up after a HR, Single, Single

Just keeps lettng Marte free swing and doesn't coach him to improve

Somehow wins despite absolute dip.crap managing for most of the game.

I think that was a good spot to put Sewald in, sink or swim in a low-risk situation. We saw the result. As far as Marte free-swinging. I don't know, maybe the hitting coach? Of course the manager is always the fall guy, but...

As for Marte… Ketel will Ketel no matter who is chirping in his ear. He’s been an undisciplined free-swinger his entire career. And he’s been talented enough to course correct when needed… for the most part. Marte has never been one to humbly take input from coaching…

It’s so difficult to know how to feel about Torey. There are managerial decisions that seem absolutely asinine… pitching decisions, blind faith in some players whose performances don’t seem to warrant, late inning substitutions, etc. I frequently yell at the tv over what I consider boneheaded moves.

And yet… he has a sub-par roster that he has managed to keep in contention. Is that in spite of or because of Torey?

I think it is in spite of Torey. Imagine if Tony La Russa (in his prime) was managing this club. I think they would be 15 games over .500 at this point. TLR was the pinnacle of in-game management. Torey, not so much.

Torey plays a significant role in this team being as successful as they’ve been this season… same for the past several seasons. It’s why the team has kept him for a decade now.
No manager is ever perfect… many are fortunate to have their mistakes and shortcomings mitigated by the talent on a roster. That is certainly not the case with Torey, who has had teams that at best would’ve been expected to be minimally competitive in the post-season.

Torey is the Jeff Fisher of MLB Managers. Not bad, but not great. 50/50

Fisher had some great talent on the Rams, but was only 40/60. When McVay took over the team, well, the rest is history. Give me the equivalent of McVay, and I am signing him today.

The use of sewald was fine. It was the lack of a short hook that frustrated me.
