when players miss one of their free throws it's usually the first one - this one free throw rule is absolutely nuts

Looking over all these free throws, the value of repetition is clear. I recall theorizing that players shot worse on technical free throws than overall because the circumstances were different without any other players on the line, but it turns out this isn't the case at all. They shoot worse simply because technicals are typically the first free throw taken. (I separated out cases where the same player shot multiple consecutive free throws, a tiny sample but one on which they did shoot better on the second attempt.) It's also intriguing that players actually shot worse last season on the third free throw on a 3-point foul than the second, which certainly might be noise in the data.

It'll speed up the summer league games. I don't have a problem with it. I don't think they're testing it for the NBA.

smart coaches will have their teams play more physical - especially in the paint against bigs - no dunks allowed - why give up the high percentage dunk when you can force a 60% free throw shooter to try and make a free throw on his first attempt

free throws also allow for breathers during games - cardio would also become more important/beneficial - luka would definitely not like this

IDK if I am a homer, but watching how the 2025 guys play together in G League, they definitely have chemistry together. Throw Hoiberg into the mix, and I think we are getting into SL Playoffs this year.

I doubt it actually. Khaman and Fleming likely only play 2 games, without them I don't think our team will be that good.

I’ve been calling for this for decades! Ever since they got rid of the one and one. Free throws are so boring and they disrupt the flow of the game.

We don’t shoot free throws in my men’s league. Once you get into the bonus you get a point and the ball. It’s fantastic.

I usually fast forward through free throws anyway but it’s still kinda annoying.

I'd be in favor of that becoming the new norm outside of the 4th quarter. I can see slowing it down and being more precise when the game hangs in the balance and every point counts. I hope this is viewed positively and they roll it out to the G-League for further experiments.

I'm older. Free throws are a bathroom break when watching the game at home! ;)

I am 50+ now so I am against anything new (like changing FT rules).

Silly if Fleming and Maluach won't play with Brea and Peat. And Hoiberg I guess. What's the point of summer league? Without the best players it will be more trash and less watchable. No point in resting guys 3 months before the season starts.

I would be ok with this is if they got a free shot from the location of the foul. But not the way they are doing it at the moment.
