Not for me. That would probably be it for me and this team. The first pick doesn’t guarantee anything.

Dvontel felt very smart when we tanked for MHJ.
I don't know that it would be it for me, but I have already adjusted how much I invest in a team that doesn't seem interested in winning football games. This probably wouldn't help that past turning into week 1 to see if looks like a capable NFL QB.

There are so many reasons these young QBs fail outside of even the pre draft stuff. So much of it comes down to how quickly these guys can process information and make the right decisions which is really tough for anyone to determine. I think Beck had some maturity, arm strength, and decision making concerns pre draft. Those just get added to the other things that every QB has to overcome at the NFL level.

We will see.
I don’t know that I see the maturity issue. He’s had to deal with adversity for sure. I feel like compared to the last 4 starting QBs we drafted and started (Murray, Rosen, Skelton, and Leinart), Beck seems to be the most composed and self-aware of them.

I expect we’ll see enough of him through the preseason to get an idea if he can play.

The difference is that I feel he has some similar traits to Rosen.

How so? I don’t see it at all. When has Beck had this energy:

Both guys have/had some loner reports coming out of the draft. Both have a very laid back demeanor. Both have/had questionable teammate concerns.

For Beck, I’m trying to factor in short durations with teammates not 3 to 4 years as a possible contributing factor to the loner label.

brissett is really counting on beck not being that guy and he probably isn't but damn - beck probably had twice the amount of reps during voluntaries due to brissett not being there

beck was developing timing and route chemistry in lafleur's new system while getting the new oc's full attention

some will say they were meaningless reps in a noncontact setting but i disagree - beck wasn't learning from brissett in practice - beck hasn't seen how brissett commands the lockeroom or huddle

minshew aint no mentor to beck either - he just barely got here too - im not saying it's brissett and minshew's job to help bring beck along but i am saying beck has come in without the vet qb(s) telling beck what's up

instead beck's just running around the facility all day everyday like some first round draft pick becoming besties with jeremiyah and concentrating on what he himself thinks is important - freestyling if you will

i still think it's brissett's job but khaman - it's been months - now they are down to weeks (if they're going to ink this deal at all)

is there still being progress made in the jacoby negotiations or have they been at a stand still this whole time? sure would like to know that little tid bit

Pretty sure he is the oldest of all of those dudes when drafted as well.

With age usually comes maturity.

Beck has had more college starts than Murray and Rosen combined, and he took two teams deep into the playoffs. He was a bad throw away from a national title against the top pick in the draft this year. Plus he’s putting in the time and effort from all accounts that Rosen and Murray were known not to do.

Maybe he’s introverted, IDK, but he comes across to me as much more mature and professional than the last few QBs we’ve drafted, and that gives me a small bit of hope he might be a good pro. Plus he’s much bigger than both Murray and Rosen and should be more durable. Time will tell.

"Beck said he has been putting in 13-hour days at the Cardinals' facility, going beyond what Arizona is asking of its rookies. After the rookies are done with their meetings, Beck spends time with offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and quarterbacks coach Matt Schaub. Beck also has access to first-year head coach Mike LaFleur if questions arise."

While Brissett is enjoying the golf course, this kid is spending every waking moment at the facilities and with the coaches. If you’re ML you gotta love and respect this.

I’m hoping Beck balls out in the preseason (as he should if he wants to start early. If he looks mediocre against NFL backups the hype to start him soon will die down)

Agreed 100%. It’s really good for Beck’s development that we get the extra preseason game this year. It’s still preseason and I wouldn’t put too much stock into it since we’re not game planning heavily, but I’m hoping he gets some time against actual NFL players to get used to the speed. Defenses aren’t going to disguise much in preseason though, so be wary of him balling out and calling him the future too. We need real results in real games in the fall.

Agreed. Reps against 3rd, 4th string and future insurance salesmen are still reps...and an opportunity to work on timing in and out of the huddle, play calling, situational awareness, game speed, etc. Every live rep is invaluable.
