The first trade at the top of the draft will throw all the mock drafts into the paper shredder.

Teams will scramble when they see their first choice off the board and then make that trade decision to go after another of their top-rated players before he is off the board. All it takes is for one team to trade up and take their guy—think someone like Jerry Jones of the Cowboys who is not shy about making such a move. He loves the RB position from back into the Dark Ages of the NFL. I can see him moving up—even to the #2 pick if he thinks the Cards (or some other team) are sniffing around RB Love. If a team makes that kind of move, all the dominoes will fall in a totally different manner than all the Mel Kiper mocks can even guess. Even MO’s draft board will be erased: we will end up with a WR and a K with our first two picks.

Team building rules will spin off to the edge of the galaxy, Chaos will rule, fan sites will implode, draft boards will be sucked into black holes of irrelevancy, Thanos will have all the rings and all the Doritos, dogs and cats will live together.

Certainly a plausible scenario. I’m hearing most teams think the last two thirds of round 1 and every pick thereafter is a gamble. I’m told instead of big boards some teams have a list of functional players by rounds 1, 2 & 3. It’s something I’ve never seen.

Thanks for your comments, Harry.

Teams are more likely now as compared to the recent past to make trades with draft picks and players. Witness the Giants-Bengals trade with DL Dexter Lawrence moving from the Giants in exchange for the #10 pick in this draft. GMs and owners are under increased pressure to succeed and will do some impulsive moves to make it happen. Forget the '5-year plan' or drafting a QB to sit for two+ years (as with the Packers)

That Dexter Lawrence deal came out on April 18th and is after Mel Kiper’s ‘final’ mock draft that came out April 15th. So Kiper’s mock goes into the paper shredder before the draft even gets started.

Kiper had the Bengals taking CB Mansoor Delane, LSU at the #10 pick that is now in the hands of the Giants. The Giants were already at #5 with their own pick and Kiper had them taking SAF Caleb Downs, Ohio State. With #10 in hand, will this change the Giants thinking about who to take with #5? All the other teams are having to do a quick shuffle with Cincy currently out of #10.

Let the Chaos begin!

When you see profiles like Omar Cooper and Denzel Boston getting 1st round buzz you know its a terrible draft.
