Maybe I am wrong, but how does flattening the lottery odds for the bottom 10 teams stop tanking?

So now, instead of a small group of 5-6 teams, you are allowing teams in the middle with either no playoff intention or wanting a chance at a top pick to lose.

This won't work.

If it wasn't tanking then he's an idiot. I'd rather be accused of tanking personally.

The Kings had been winning more than they should, so I contribute it to a coaching error than tanking. My guess is the Kings thought they had a foul to give.

NBA statement: "The NBA has completed an investigation of the Sacramento Kings and Head Coach Doug Christie's decision to foul intentionally late in the team's game against the Golden State Warriors on April 7. The league's investigation determined that Christie mistakenly believed that the Warriors were not in the penalty and therefore instructed his team to foul in an attempt to stop the clock and utilize one of the team's remaining timeouts. The investigation found that Christie made no intentional effort to give the Warriors a shooting foul, or to cause the Kings to lose the game."

The NBA makes an unprecedented move in American pro sports league by punishing the very worst teams in the draft lottery and creating a new system to incentivize winning — after months of meetings and conversations among league, ownership and team stakeholders. A radical response from the NBA to radical behavior, with nearly 8-to-10 teams jockeying for lottery odds down stretch of this season. The new “3-2-1” lottery starts next Draft and lasts through at least 2029.

The "3-2-1 lottery" is named to represent the number of lottery balls per team. Teams with a bottom-three record -- the relegation area -- have only two lottery balls. Teams that do not qualify for the playoffs or play-in tournament in spots four through 10 receive three lottery balls each. The Nos. 9 and 10 play-in seeds in each conference receive two lottery balls each, and the losers of the 7-8 play-in games receive one lottery ball each. All 16 teams will in the drawing. No will be able to win the No. 1 in consecutive years or be able to win three consecutive top-five picks.

Former Phoenix Suns GM James Jones, who is now the NBA’s executive vice president, head of basketball operations, addressed the new tanking rules from a basketball perspective.

“I don't think the league's ever been in a place where teams have been this deep and the talent pool is this strong. There are a lot of good players, so many good players to the point where a lot of NBA caliber players can't stay in our league for five or six years. It’s no longer a thing like it was years ago where you couldn't find enough talent. The subjective is to say who is the worst team in basketball.”

“Some of these teams have extreme talent, but they're just coached poorly or they have injuries. In the past, it was the worst teams just didn't have enough talent. Now, you're seeing teams who have bad records with a tremendous amount of talent. So the system didn't really work for an extremely competitive league with parity and so we had to get to something that we think we'll solve some of our biggest issues but also allow teams to be creative in how they manage this plethora of talent that's in our ecosystem.”

Ecosystem? Lol

I used to work with an SVP that would use that term at least once every meeting. Me and a couple guys that reported to me would wait for it every meeting and then have a good laugh off camera.
