first off devin booker is off the table - not because of how i feel but because of how ish and book feel - it's just not going to happen

that said we're still hamstrung by salary cap issues - we need to play our draft picks next year - and we need a real draft pick/rookie contract to develop this year

that would be the reasoning - i think we have a pick projected to be in the middle of the 2nd round but khaman - all the sought after picks will be gone

thing is most teams are looking to get younger - it's what's in style - partly because of the rookie contracts - even second rounders are starting to become more valuable

then there's the matter of gillespie williams and goody - are we trying to keep all 3 and can we afford to? if we trade one of our premier players for a draft pick - maybe

You must be registered for see images attach

ott loves his guys - book brooks oneale grayson gillespie goody and oso - he atleast trusts williams - but i don't think ott is big fan of jalen or dunn and he definitely doesn't trust rookies unless he has to

we also now know size doesn't matter to ott - it just doesn't - could be our talent pool could just be his preference - who knows

anyways - what player(s) do we have that we could possibly get draft pick compensation for? and would it have to be for a first round pick?

Trades have to be viewed through the lens of the CBA.

Dillon Brooks is an expiring contract next season at nearly $20 million so there is that. His productivity combined with his contract would be attractive to a contender.

The salaries of Royce O'Neale and Grayson Allen make trades more difficult, especially without sweeteners. Contenders usually have their own luxury tax problems.

Would the Suns consider trading Jalen Green?

Trading Mark Williams, RFA, would save some future salary.

Collin Gillespie will be free agent. So will Jordan Goodwin.

The youngsters are on cheap contracts. So is Hightower.

Decisions, decisions, decisions...

Something to consider, the Suns should be under the first tax apron entering next season so they can aggregate salaries in trade plus other benefits like using the Exceptions.

Also, the Luxury tax for 2026-27 will not be calculated until the end of that season giving added flexibility.

you know my choice. he makes as much as Jalen Green and Dillon Brooks combined.

and he makes as much as the rest of the team combined (next 11 players after Green and Brooks)

I don't really dislike anyone on this team, and nobody has a horrible contract, so I am not really set on trading anyone. It comes down to financial side of things, and the roster construction. They have a bunch of wings, and one rookie PF. I would love a PF who can step in at 5 in a pinch. Flemming looks legit, so it can be a backup type. With very little draft capital, I think they really have to develop what they have.

Book is the Suns- unless he wants to leave, I would never trade him. Green is way too young and athletic to give up on. Brooks is the heart and soul of this team. Oso has established himself as a good backup Center. Flemming looks like a legitimate starter- a 3 and D PF. Dunn is way too young to give up on, Man-Man is starting to look like an NBA player. Collin looks like a solid point guard. Goodwin looks like a solid backup. Bouyea looks like a cheap third point guard.

That leaves Williams, Royce, Highsmith, and Grayson. If they extend Williams, as long as his contract is over when Man-Man is up for an extension, it should be fine. Royce could go, as Highsmith does everything he does. Grayson can probably go, but he is a net positive player.

I honestly don't think I'd change much. Royce, Mark, and Grayson are the only ones that might make sense to trade in order to upgrade the PF spot, though if you S&T Williams, you have to find another Center.

Suns are not going to get anything from those guys that turns them into a contender. Their path is development of Flemming, Man-Man, Dunn, etc, while finding some additional help on the margins.

I think Phoenix should be looking to either consolidate a bunch of dimes into quarters as they have a number of wings that are good but not great. That being said, I don't think those types of moves happen much anymore so more likely sending a player or two out to try and restock draft capital while freeing up development time is probably the next best thing at this point.

O'neale is the most likely candidate, but his age and salary probably restricts the pool of interested teams. As it stands I think Grayson should stay given the injury issues in the backcourt; he's one of 3 players that can reliable create shots for both himself and others.

Don’t forget Ishbia in a past interview said he has no problems paying the luxury tax if the team is a contender. I think he was referencing the 1st apron. It was staying away come the 2nd Apron to avoid penalties that he had an issue with.

It's not about the willingness to pay the money. The penalties for being above the first tax apron are even harsh.

He seemed to be OK with those. It’s the penalties for the 2nd he had concerns with. He didn’t want future drafts to be impacted (moved picks).

Again, he was specifically referencing the team being a legit contender.

Just check out the penalties for even above the NBA first tax apron, much less the second. There are a lot of them especially the hard cap.

This is why the Suns are staying below the first tax apron this season.

My opinion is Royce has to be traded - That is priority #1. Rasheer and Highsmith are better players who deserve his time. I would prefer Dunn get time over him as well.

Others I would not mind trading at all are Mark Williams and Grayson. I don't like having to rely on injury prone guys - and both also earn a fair amount of salary.

In my opinion the number one priority is to bring back Jordin Goodwin. Gillespie would be nice, but if the price gets to high we may have to let him go because he will be a backup.

I think next season Rasheer has to be a starter, and Khaman has to get at least backup minutes.

If there is some player we can go after with a package - a better player - than maybe you consider trading Dunn but I would prefer to keep him.

Again, everything needs to be viewed through the lens of the CBA.

Likely a contender would think twice before wanting to take on O'Neale's salary of $10,875,000 and $11,625,000 for the next two years. The same with Allen.

We haven't been playing Dunn, Fleming, and Maluach lately because we'll be packaging them for Giannis in the offseason. (I really hope not. Haven't we learned our lesson from the KD fiasco?)

The 2nd comes with extra penalties depending on how long you are over. Ishbia seemed pretty versed on the penalties of both but still said what he said. He simply didn't seem as concerned about the 1st Apron but hey...it's his money.

We agree, if it were only about money, Mat Ishbia would spend it on the team.

For some reason he doesn't feel the first Apron is out of the question if the team is close. I just don't see him having to worry about that anytime soon. This team is years away from legit contending minus a really big pick up of a piece. That's likely the scenario he is referring too. I think there is no shot he visits the 2nd again. I don't think it's worth it with the new rules.

We shall see what skills the new GM brings to the table in the off season. The Suns definitely need some roster adjustments to continue improving but as the other posters mentioned, they are in a difficult position because there are no clear cut immediately advantageous ones to make. And since we are also essentially draftless this year, there aren't any ways to gain from that, at least presently.

FWIW, I believe the Suns have a late second round pick.

I basically agree but some details need to be mentioned.

Green is indeed talented and very athletic, but way too young he is not. This is his 5th NBA season and he is the very same player as he was in his rookie year.

I definitely would let him go, if a proper offer comes. The problem is I don't think that teams would offer much for him, maybe a late 1st rounder?

I would instensively shop O'Neale and Allen, try to merge all the assets into a lottery pick, but it will be close to impossbile.

I'd give up Allen in the expansion draft, his salary slot could be better used on other players. RO is expendable but his salary is also reasonable that I'm open to keeping him. MW, Gillespie, Goodwin are all welcome back if price is right, but there are alternatives out there for each of them. Highsmith is larger version of Goody, Okogie can be equally good. As to Gillespie, the Rollins and Spencers are all as good if not better. Green has all the talent but still needs to learn to convert it into better plays.

Im curious what sort of market there will be for Collin in a sign and trade. Adding some talent and freeing up some cash to lock in Goodwin and Williams could be the best play available. We need size but ultimately don't have much to spend and can't afford to lose a lot of guys. However Collin in a deal for a PF could solve 2 issues, giving us cash to keep Goodwin and Williams plus adding a PF/C to the rotation.

I'd be open to Dunn used as a sweetener because he's fallen far and I'm not sure he'll reach the heights he's previously hit here. He's not a long term solution at forward for us.

Moving Allen and Oneal opens the doors for CG and Dunn, this makes the most sense to me. I think Williams give us a friendly deal.
