If it’s true that Anthony Campanile is known for being the “Sean McVay” of defense, meaning he’s willing to change the defense week to week based on the opponent and to keep the opposition confused, I’m intrigued. There’s nothing worse than being out cocked every single week because you’re so predictable.

Being out cocked is so embarrassing.

No way we get Kubiak… I figure he is going to coach Mendoza…. For me it’s lafleur Brady or campanile…
Joe Brady scares me. He has only had sustained NFL success with Josh Allen, and even though Brady was the coordinator at LSU doing that magical season in 2019, I think it is fair to question if he was the reason or if Joe Burrow, Justin Jefferson and Ja’Marr Chase were the reasons.

Further, he doesn’t have any great connections for a potential defensive coordinator. He has been with Ryan Nielsen for many years at various stops, but Nielsen has been a horrible DC several times. I mean, is Dave Aranda leaving his head coach-position at Baylor to be a coordinator? I guess you could point to Bobby Babich, who was the Bills’ DC until McDermott got fired, but I don’t know if I see him as a stud.

Are their rumored names he would bring in on the offensive side of the ball?
I haven’t seen anything, JL. I read that a Florida-journalist reported that Grant Udinski might leave the Jaguars if he could get a playcalling-position (and was allowed to leave), so I figured that might be an option.

Campanile also worked with Josh Grizzard in Miami, but I guess Grizzard’s performance this season was not the best way to sell himself.

He worked with Frank Smith - Mike McDaniel right-hand man - in Miami, and he is obviously available now that McDaniel has been fired. Darrell Bevell was also with them in Miami.

Adam Stenavich was the OC in Green Bay (and still is) when Campanile was there, and he might be willing to move if he could call plays.

Then there is Spencer Whipple who he is with now in Jacksonville, and who we know well.

He could also interview some experienced OCs that perhaps are looking for work. Seeing that there were 10 HC openings some OCs may be available.

If Campanile is really emerging at the top choice, I’m trying to talk myself into it.

I will say, unlike a Jesse Minter, his turnaround to the Jacksonville defense isn’t necessarily because of the HC. Minter could be great, but Jim Harbaugh defenses are always good, regardless of who his coordinators are. His 9ers back in 2011-2014 were dominant and a top 5 ranked defense. His teams at Michigan were usually top 12 nationally.

Campanile turned Jax around without the influence and presence of a seasoned and expert defensive coach.

This is also why I rank Klint Kubiak above Mike LeFluer. It’s pretty obvious McVay is the mastermind since they never have a drop off every time he loses a coordinator - plus he calls the plays.

Greg Roman and Matt Nagy are experienced OCs that are both available to be an OC with another team. If Cards hire someone like Campanile to be HC, he doesn't have to have connections for his OC. I'm not saying go after Roman or Nagy but he can interview and bring in an experienced staff. OCs & DCs change jobs all of the time.IMO Gannon should have done this.

I was thinking the same thing about Brady if he doesn’t get another HC job maybe even Daboll.

This is where he screwed up royally….He’d likely still be here had he surrounded himself with some people who’ve had success in this league.

wasn't there talk at some point about him bringing in Mike Zimmer as a defensive assistant or consultant? I agree that if we hire one of these young coordinators they need to have some sideline knowledge come with them.
