If this is true... It's not surprising. This is the reality of college sports now.

I'm more into the loyalty thing. I want Sam Leavitt to come back for what he has done for the program. He has been a game changer.

However, paying a quarterback top dollar after coming off what might be considered a serious injury is risky business.

I think the NFL is likely to see it the same way.

Another thing I've thought about. If Leavitt can't make it in the NFL, he might be looking for his last big payday.

It's hard to fault him for that if the Sun Devils can't come close financially.

Neither LSU or FSU are top jobs anymore

Louisiana state is a mess right now with the governor’s interference. Even LSU fans recognize that their desirability has taken a big hit due to all the drama around the program.

If any SEC team was hurt by the addition of Texas and Oklahoma it’s LSU because now they can’t sell Texas recruits on being in the SEC when there are three much closer SEC schools now
LSU and Ohio St are the only programs where three different coaches have won a national title since 2000. Depending on the right coach they’re a top-5 program. Brian Kelly was a terrible culture fit from day one. LSU has the 7th rated recruiting class for 2025 for a coach everyone hates. ASU has the 60th rated class for a coach everyone likes. All about money and location.

I think Kiffin gets it though if LSU wants him.

Honestly, Leavitt, whether he returns or leaves, is going to be a big question mark as a QB going forward. He's not a skilled drop back passer but is more of a "playmaker" type in the mold of guys like Jake Plummer, Johnny Manziel, Baker Mayfield, etc. Those guys are looked at skeptically (for good reason, at this point) by the NFL. Unless he takes some kind of leap forward in what's left of his college career, I'm not sure he's going to grade out very high in the draft.

And one now has to wonder how this foot injury is going to impact his game after he recovers from it. Obviously, a lot of his skillset is predicated on his mobility, and Lisfranc injuries are notoriously lingering.

The reality is it may be in his own best interest to get the biggest payoff he can at this point because the future for him probably is very uncertain. On the other hand, if he does have trouble coming back fully healthy, it may be a blessing in disguise for ASU to be forced to move on to someone else.

This is pure haterade. LSU is about to drop serious coin on Lane. Not one school in the Big-12 could do that.

That’s about 3x what Dilly is making annually, and their NIL budget is maybe 4-5x.

And if FSU ever came to the Big-12, they’d have the most prestigious HC position there. They have deep pocket boosters and a national fanbase.

Conservative estimates, LSU is easily a Top-5 job and FSU Top-15

That's a lot of cheddar. LSU is an athletic powerhouse, don't know why anyone would argue otherwise.[/QUOTE]

It’s going to be hard to keep him unless ASU overpay him earlier than someone else. The top money schools like LSU will overpay. I think the AD there was at A&M when they paid jimbo or paid him to go away.

This isn’t just limited to 5 schools or LSU and Ohio State. There are at least 10 schools or more that can throw money at a coach on any given day in hopes of winning a natty. It often fails more than it hits. Kiffin has no loyalty to anyone. He already has that track record and that card will be used against him in spades when it comes to SEC recruiting. It’s one thing to leave for a once and a lifetime situation. It’s another thing when you do what he does on the regular. LSU is a great program. They are an unrivaled juggernaut in a state that is arguably the most underrated when it comes to HS football. So that makes it similar to Ohio State. Yet, I think it could go wrong there just as it did for C. Kelly who has the same track record as Lane K.

Actually that AD, Scott Woodward, was fired at LSU in October this year, after paying Brian Kelly to go away. :)

No showed ASU Banquet, expected to enter portal

Sam Leavitt no-shows ASU banquet; Kenny Dillingham wishes Leavitt well in future

Sam Leavitt's absence at ASU's football banquet was mentioned by Kenny Dillingham, who said it would be cowardly not to mention him.

At this point something like this shouldn’t bother me but it does.

Best of luck in the portal, Sam. The nice thing is there will be some college QB wanting to come to ASU to play for Kenny and make a name for themselves too.

I wouldn't be shocked to see Miami take a strong run

The odd thing about the portal is that you really lose track and don't have an understanding of the guys you recruited in at the position

Young guys competing through spring ball, etc.

It feels like unless you have a knockout prospect it's just cycling the portal

I saw something on Sportsgrid, or something like that, that showed Leavitt earned $3m in NIL at ASU IN 2025. Not sure he will get that much more leaving.

A college football podcast I listen to talked about Sam’s brother reps him and it sounds like he is heavily influencing Sam

I just see his valuation is $3M. If he earned that at ASU, then him leaving is more about roster talent, and elevating his draft stock.

Fyi, a good portion of the NIL money that Sam got, he either gave to other teammates or donated to hospital charities.

I understand but not really relevant. He still got the $3m and that is at the upper end of the NIL spectrum this season. What he did with the money is his deal.

And then leave.

I know yall don’t want to hear it, but Sam is the canary in the coal mine for this program. How may leavitts is it going to take before dilly looks around and says, “forget it, I can’t singlehanded drag a lower tier program - even one I love - to consistent prominence. If I develope someone they’re going to leave for greener pastures and eventually I won’t have the magic touch in getting the perfect reclamation/rising projects (skat, Tyson, Leavitt) and I’ll get fired. If a big program with big NIL and recruiting ease comes calling with gobs money I’d be dumb not to jump.” It’s not what I want to happen. It just is what it is: likely.
