Karen Gillan Joins Henry Cavill in ‘Highlander’ Remake (Exclusive)

Chad Stahelski is directing the action fantasy for Amazon MGM.

Henry Cavill is leading the cast that includes Russell Crowe, Dave Bautista, and Marisa Abela.

The action fantasy, which hails from Amazon MGM’s United Artists banner, is being directed by Chad Stahelski and is slated for a theatrical release. Principal photography is due to begin at the end of September.

The original Highlander, released in 1986, starred Christopher Lambert as Connor MacLeod, a Medieval Scottish Highlander who discovers he is an immortal warrior. With the help of a swordsman named Ramirez, played by Sean Connery, the titular Highlander battles other immortals across the centuries, culminating in a modern battle in which, like the classic line of dialogue goes, “there can be only one.”

In the remake, Cavill is playing MacLeod while Crowe is Ramirez. Bautista is the savage warrior named The Kurgen while Industry actress Marisa Abela also has a leading role.

Gillan will play Heather, MacLeod’s mortal wife and the love of his life.

Good bit of casting.
I question Crowe as Ramirez...seemed it would have been a prime spot for Pedro Pescal since he is a hot item right now.
But I like Bautista as The Kurgen...Dave has refined his acting chops a lot over the past few years.

We aren't talking about the sequels, because there were no sequels. They don't exist

I can't stop laughing at the idea that the series was better than the original movie. Clancy Brown agrees with me.

Rewatching the original right now.
Remove all the fan boy, the nostalgia, the cult classic hype...and it really does suck canal water.
The soundtrack and Sean Connerys presence carry the movie.

They should make Rory Mcann be McCloud..(The Hound).... then have Mamoa play the Kurgan...to replace Connery... Pedro Pescal....or stretch it and use Hugh Jackman....
Not just the fans, but all the people who worked so hard to make the original a cultural icon ...we all deserve a modern fully budgeted reboot...
Bring highlander to the next generation....
There can be only ONE!!

Yep. I watch a LOT of movies and have for many years. I'm pretty sure this is the absolute worst film I've ever rewatched multiple times.

I think a lot of its success was simply from the one liner... back in the eighties we were kinda hooked on them...from " Go ahead, make my day"...I'll Be Back... Yippee kiyay muddapucker... then you add in the totally badass..." There Can Be Only ONE!"...and its hard to resist...we didnt get over our one liner frenzy until Stallone uttered the failed words of destiny..."Youre the disease,....and Im the cure!"...when that happened we all kinda realized you can in fact take a good thing way to far.
But you couple that with a budding group of GenX teens that were fiending for some D&D fantasy type stuff at theaters and Highlander was a perfect storm.
The only way it would have hit better?? Is if the Kurgan spit out..." McCloud,....I am your Faaather"

I ain't got time to bleed. And I ain't got time to read about movie one-liners if they don't include Jesse Ventura's absurdly macho Predator line. Which came out the year after Stallone's "cure" so they were still spitting out one-liners after Cobra bombed. But I'd probably watch a Star Wars/Highlander crossover.

It was pretty butchered by the studio when it was released in the US. I imported the European 4K with the international cut, and it fixes a lot of the issues.
