Obviously, the Suns didn't have to make the trade if they didn't want it.
The talking point is after KD killed the Minnesota deal by saying he didn't want to be there, the best deal remaining was the Houston deal.

ESPN has the Suns taking Carter Bryant, https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45515479/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams

10. Phoenix Suns (via Houston)
Carter Bryant, SF/PF, Arizona
Freshman | TS%: 59.9

Height without shoes: 6-6½ | Weight: 214
Standing reach: 8-10 | Wingspan: 6-11¾

This pick was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

Bryant has received strong reviews throughout the predraft process. He appears likely to hear his name called somewhere in the 9-to-15 range, with several teams likely to be attracted to the frontcourt shooting, defensive versatility and passing prowess he offers. Bryant wasn't consistently productive for Arizona coming off the bench, averaging 6.5 points per game, as he's not much of a shot creator, and has plenty of room for growth on both ends of the floor. -- Givony
6'6" sounds perfect :thumbup::beer:

A lot of podcasters like this guy. It's ANOTHER 6'6" guy on our roster. We are loaded with this type of player. I hope it's someone different.

NBADraft.net has the Suns taking Nolan Traore, https://www.nbadraft.net/nba-mock-drafts/
Oh HELL no! A PG? Who do we take off the court? The high salaries of Green, Book, or Beal? As our team stands now, I'd say no. We saw how having Tyus Jones didn't help us.

Pluses and minuses on his scouting page says shooting and defense are his real weaknesses.

I think the primary selling point for the Suns was getting their 10th pick back.

I know fans wanted more, I wanted more, but there is a reason the Rockets extended Green. He is only 23. There is still untapped potential.

Regardless, the Suns gained financial flexibility, NBA players and draft picks.

Personally, I don't know if I could have taken any more isolation basketball.
Yeah, Josh Jackson still had potential at 23 too.

Wake up.

with the actual trade being set aside - i imagine even ish had gregory bother every team who was half interested one last time - letting them know we were going with houston unless they sweetened their deals - and all the teams passed - even miami

far as the trade goes it blows - a shooting guard and small forward - reminds me of when tony montana was talking about all the octopus he's eaten because we have octopus coming out our ****ing ears

but neither green nor brooks are garbage and the 10th pick is technically still a chance at landing another starter - i sure hope ish makes the right pick

I'm definitely in the minority I guess. I'm definitely pleased. The brand of basketball we've been watching since end of last year has been horrible. We gambled and lost. I would love to keep Green. Lots of teams would love to have him.
No, they wouldn’t. There was literally several reports of the rockets trying to trade him because we didn’t want him, but they could find no takers, which makes sense because he is owed 100 million and is worse than 20 dudes you can sign at the mid level.

I like this trade.

Obviously, the whole Durant-saga was a disaster but now we at least tried to stop the bleeding.

We got back our 2025 pick, some 2nd rounders, a 3-and-D F and a very talented, high-level athlete who is still immature.

It was clear that the Suns had to trade Durant before the offers start to fade even more. When reports came out that the Rockets' offer was based on Green, #10, I thought that it would make sense to squeeze out some more from this offer and then call it a day.

I think they are saying they want to keep Green to up his value. We still have to get under the second apron, and by enough to get more players. We need size. We can't expect three picks in this year's draft to make that up for us. We will have to trade some guys to get us under the second apron. Now the real work begins. If they want a competitive roster, they have a lot of work to do!

Personally, I approve of this trade, just because it made the Suns younger by replacing an aging player with two much younger players, one of whom plays better defense, and several rookies once they get drafted.

It's refreshing to find someone who likes the trade.

Gambo agrees with you.

One of the things someone asked in the podcast is if we could trade our picks and maybe Green to move up in the draft. The draft supposedly has 8 real franchise guys and we are at ten. The podcasts I am listenening to hope someone falls like Haliburton did and we end up with one of those guys.

So this isn’t true. I get that some of you love to play the hyperbole card here, but there are some posters that likely believe you know what you’re talking about when you say this stuff. The swaps WILL end up with us having worse picks, but they won’t be literally end of the round unless we have swaps with a team that wins the championship - unlikely. Conditioned in us getting under the threshold.

Draft order is determined based on regular season record not the playoffs. An 8th seed could win the championship and still pick at #15 or #16. Winning a championship does not push a pick to the back of the round.

This makes some sense. The Rockets didn't want to give up the Suns 2025 first round pick when it was still an unknown and possibly the number 1 pick. The flatter lottery odds have made first rounders, even from later lottery teams more valuable. They were never giving up our 2027 and 2029 picks unless they were getting Booker in return.
