Gerald Bourget, who I trust, said the deal as it stands now, does NOT get the Suns under the second apron.

Gambo Update:

So let's talk about the trade. Would I have liked Jabari Smith JR - YES. But Suns made the best deal they could make. KD had to go. Suns needed assets and young players. Brooks and Green both starters on the #2 seed in West, both in their 20's. The #10 pick is a good pick. The
five second rounders most likely more valuable as future trade assets so good to have. I like Green - he attacks the basket - the Suns were worst in the league at it. Brooks is a dog - and this team needs toughness. I was on
@KevinOConnorNBA
podcast and he gave Suns a B- and I
think that is a fair grade. Suns total value is 8 players for one soon to be 37-year old. KD will be GREAT with the Rockets and I hope he does well I really do. Hard to win trades moving a superstar so you do the best you can and I think the Suns did just fine.

A very good YOUNG player. Hard nosed role player...a top 10 pick...5 2nds
For 38 yr old KD
We did pretty damn good imo
The only thing is that young player is not in a position of need for us. Everyone wanted a big. You could hold him and hope he becomes a Booker. Or you could play hime to show case him and try and flip him at midseason. Green is coming off a bad playoff performance, so his stiock is probably low right now.

Yes, the teams had to match salaries under CBA rules, as neither team could absorb the salaries.

Suns will have to make futher moves to get under the second tax apron.

Well, I'm delighted the Suns did not give up their good defensive role players, O'Neral and Grayson Allen.

This trade does not make the Suns worse defensively. It replaces Durant's okay defense with Brooks' excellent defense; and Green...he tries, and he's only 23. Has time to improve.

The trade can't be finalized until July and Houston does not have a shooting guard so I wouldn't be surprised if we include one of our glut of shooting guards in the trade if we can drop below the 2nd apron allowing us to include multiple players.

Actually we could have taken up to ten percent less. We just had to get into a certain percentage taking back what we traded. It didn't have to match exactly. Otherwise teams over the second apron would never be able to get out of it. The league wants teams to get under it, that's why they up the penalties the longer you are in it.

Hmmm...so we might look stupid for discussing the trade as though it's done.

Looking at the date the trade can be finalized, the Rockets will be drafting for the Suns.

So one of the things we see in this year's playoffs, is team depth matters. We have to get off these top salary heavy guys and get a lot of good lower paid players. Hopefully this off season we see some actual quality guys, like Brooks, come back on the Suns. We are deficient on size right now. That appears to be our biggest need so far.

Kinda a KJ trade - turn that 10 pick into Majerle and we could be in business
Supposedly this is a draft deficient in starting big man talent. Of course the suns get the number ten pick! LOL!

So we technically could have used the trade to get under the second apron. I was hoping for that.

One of the players would have to have a non-guaranteed salary for it to work.

You arent getting what I am saying. We only had to tke back 90 percent of KD's salary back. That would have gotten us under the second apron, without the need to cut or waive anyone.

If I'm understanding you correctly, then some different players would have to be involved to get the math to work.

Edit:

I'm not sure what the difference in salaries are because most of the websites have the players already moved to other teams like the ESPN NBA Trade Machine. The Suns would have to take back less money in the trade.

I have watched about three podcasts this morning on the trade, and supposedly they all feel we had Green thrust on us.

Obviously, the Suns didn't have to make the trade if they didn't want it.

IMO if this team is serious about rebuilding its time to consider trading Book as well. They need to go all in on a rebuild like OKC did.

Stockpile picks aka lottery tickets and hope we strike gold.

ESPN has the Suns taking Carter Bryant, https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/45515479/2025-nba-mock-draft-59-picks-trade-talks-heat-30-teams

10. Phoenix Suns (via Houston)
Carter Bryant, SF/PF, Arizona
Freshman | TS%: 59.9

Height without shoes: 6-6½ | Weight: 214
Standing reach: 8-10 | Wingspan: 6-11¾

This pick was traded by the Houston Rockets to the Phoenix Suns on Sunday.

Bryant has received strong reviews throughout the predraft process. He appears likely to hear his name called somewhere in the 9-to-15 range, with several teams likely to be attracted to the frontcourt shooting, defensive versatility and passing prowess he offers. Bryant wasn't consistently productive for Arizona coming off the bench, averaging 6.5 points per game, as he's not much of a shot creator, and has plenty of room for growth on both ends of the floor. -- Givony
