Hard to tell what's what at this point. ESPN clearly seemed to have made errors in their reporting, but still insistent on the basic correctness of it. And MIller and the U of Arizona have been very hinkey in how they have gone about denying it, leaving themselves a lot of wiggle room in case something else comes out.

I think Miller would have a hard time doing so because he's a public employee, though ESPN and the Star need to be held responsible in one way, shape, or form

If they retract or apologize the REALLY open the door to litigation. They won't do so until they absolutely have to. Mark Schlabalabalabach going dark through all this is enough of an admission they're not sure of their story/source as well as no followup to the original story. It could get ugly for ESPN.

I know what you mean, but you know what I mean too, they have not said their original story is wrong, that the FBI has Miller on a wiretap.

I also don't agree that Schlabach going silent proves there's some doubt on his story, if ESPN doubted him they wouldn't keep saying we stand by the story.

He's probably quiet because of the story that came out yesterday that Congress is getting involved in the FBI story, and that Feds are VERY upset at the leaks that led to the Yahoo and ESPN stories and want to know who's leaking. The odds are whoever gave him his story(true or not) was contacted by the FBI and in turn told Schlabach to stop commenting.

Exactly. Miller COULD be guilty as sin on many fronts, I dunno, and as a fan would kinda rather not know. However, that doesn't excuse ESPN. Irresponsible 'journalism' at best, malicious at worst. We'll see.

1 minute ago I went to the ESPN site and found the story, dated 2/25, that clear as day says the player involved is DeAndre Ayton. His name is mentioned repeatedly in the story. It has additional stuff added at the end about Rovell's take on the contract, which has been rebutted by Arizona media, and yet was apparently revised today when they decided NOT to fire Miller.

They did change the timeline, as mentioned above, they've now changed it back to 2017, they did not change from Ayton to unnamed 5 star recruit. That came from one of those crawls at the bottom of the screen.

Forgot to add if you read the story now the title says to "lock in" Ayton at Arizona, which could mean they're now claiming Miller talked to Ayton because they were afraid he was going to leave like Ferguson did.

Bilas was on Gambo and Ash this afternoon and basically said unless Ayton / Miller can prove ESPN and that reporter acted maliciously in an attempt to harm or slander them then they really don't stand a chance of willing a lawsuit.

Bilas still standing by the ESPN reporter's story even when Gambo asked him that is Miller is on a wiretap discussing payment, why wasn't he arrested with Book? Bilas has no answer for that.

I'll be happy when the truth finally comes out so that this huge mess ends, my only hope that if UA is guilty then they do not get hammered alone, hopefully everyone gets outed so that the punishment isn't as severe.

Bilas has completely embarrassed himself lately. I used to like him because he was rational but everyone at ESPN is forced to back ESPN reports. The hilarious part is if this was a Yahoo report he’d put his lawyer hat back on and be backing Miller.
