It has been a full 8 years since he last played in the NBA, and he was dreadful at the time. He only went to China because no NBA team had an interest... I somehow doubt hitting age 40 or the awful competition level in China have improved his form.
I don't see any chance he plays in the NBA again.
I don't see him returning either, just thought I'd share that. He's done well for himself in China since leaving. He's been their biggest star for years now, becoming like a Yao Ming of sorts since he's an American that went over there and made a huge impact.

Yeah, it is a good story for sure. He was a clearly talented player but, like a lot of guys in the post Jordan era, team basketball was not his strong suit. Glad he got a redemption story, I just don't see the story book ending happening that he wants.

I didn't either, but he was actually with them last season, believe it or not. Logged 1365 minutes and shot 43% from behind the arc, on one make per game.

3 years and $41 million for Mason Plumlee. That is said to be comparable to the money Cody Zeller signed for, according to Bobby Marks from ESPN. I think Plumlee is overpaid, he'll only be a backup in Denver, and they'll be trying to move him next offseason. That's a lot for a backup, especially when their starter, Jokic, will get paid big money next summer. They gave up a 1st round pick plus Nurkic for Plumlee though so they weren't going to let him walk. It's not as bad the Brandon Knight signing but it's similar in that it seems like they're resigning him in an attempt to save face on that trade.
I guess the market average Centers is still a bit high, not Mozgov high but $13.5 million annually. Perhaps these recent deals are part of the reason Len hasn't signed yet, thinking he's worth similar money or at least being told by his agent he's worth similar money. The Suns shouldn't pay Len anymore than $25 million over 3 years, that's a little more than he may be worth but it's a fair contract for both sides, IMO.

Miles Plumlee, who is a much less effective player, got $52M/4 last summer. So that price for Mason is an outright steal.

Comparing it to last year, yes. But the market has dropped substantially since the over-inflated deals of last summer. Denver bid against themselves and probably paid too much.
Len is probably worth Big Sauce money. Maybe just a little more. I do not think anyone is going to pay him more than that.

The Nuggets pay a lot of money for a backup player not to mention the first round pick they gave up for him.

I know I rail on the Len extension ideas... but honestly, why? Why is Len worth a multiyear extension? Statistically he is bad, using advanced stats he is flat out terrible, looking at on court off court impact he is even worse. In each of those areas Williams is not only better but significantly so.

Because I think he would be a lot better now, if Tyson Chandler were not on the roster, and I believe he still has a reasonable chance to be a lot better in the future. Sauce has nice production, but his body is still going to limit his over all potential. Just my $.02. I would offer Len the same deal we offered Sauce, if it was up to me.
To me, the player that might be the one to choose over Len at center (eventually) might be Bender. I would structure Len's contract so that we could dump him (team option in the third year or something) if we think Bender is our future at center.

Statistically, we'd be better choosing virtually anyone at center over Len. I don't buy Chandler being the source or even a slight factor in Len's struggles. He is beyond useless on offense, he absolutely kills us on that end, he always has. The guy has zero range and terrible hands. Defensively he does not move the needle. He protects the rim okay... but if he gets drawn away from the basket (which most decent teams do) he becomes again, completely useless. And that ignores that he is a foul machine, even when in the right spot.
That who he has been for 4 years. There is little reason to expect it to change. In today's NBA there isn't a reason to devote money to a lumbering center who is a massive liability on offense. IMO it is hard to justify even having them on the roster.
