Cards make push for Irvin

I think that is why SK is looking at Irving from Seattle. Guys who play with bad intentions sometimes make bad mistakes as well. Apparently SK is willing to risk that to make this defense killer.

Problem is you can have all that nastiness & ability & it means jack squat if you don't produce. Irvin is just above a mediocre player.

Steve Keim and BA both know that our defense lacks a player who has nastiness in him. In fact we lack it on both sides of the ball. BA & SK are both looking for someone to lead both our offense and defense who has a fire in their belly. Campbell has sorely lacked that attribute during his whole time here, and BA has really been pushing him to step up and play angry. He's just not built that way. Yes, he has all kinds of ability, but not much 'want to'. If he played with passion, he could maybe come close to doubling his productivity, AND build some fire in our roster as well. Thank you Catfish for bringing up what I have stated time and time again, Campbell lacks the aggression to be an elite DL guy. He has talent and size but the wonderful character of his which is kind and sportsman like does not mesh for being one that can cause havoc... he lacks crazy, he truly is a gentle giant for the NFL lol

I'm not interested in signing Irvin in the least. Garbage guy who won't earn what his salary will be paid. Pass all day.

I guess I'm in the minority. Irvin is one of the players I would target if I were the Cardinals. I think he is miscast in their scheme and would be a double digit sack guy in a 3-4. The Seahawks haven't used exclusively him as a pass rusher since his rookie year.

You must remember Irvin was a part time player as a LB in a 4-3. I think he will be a huge pickup as a Rush LB in a 3-4

He';s one guy I completely changed my mind on after reading his story. When Seattle drafted him I thought another thug to Pete Carroll. If you read his story it's pretty remarkable.

Bad neighborhood, almost all white HS eventually dropped out over fights related to racial issues. Fell in with the wrong crowd. Then got incredibly lucky twice. he got arrested with a gun having broken into a drug house to rob the dealer, but since drug dealers don't report burglaries, he got out of jail with no serious charges. Then he was apparently living in a drug house in Atlanta, some guy he played HS football against came in to buy pot, remembered him and persuaded him right then to pack his stuff and come with him to a prepschool to give football one last chance. The day after he left the police raided the house and arrested everyone there, except Irvin who had left.

The prepschool was apparently one of those bogus diploma mills like Prime Prep and it closed down before irvin ever enrolled but it saved him from being arrested he eventually wound up in JC then college now the NFL.

So yeah he has a VERY bad past but I get the impression he's more like Honey Badger than D Wash, I think he learned from his past, realized he got very lucky and has taken advantage of that luck./

Supposedly ARZ is looking at Casey Hayward among a bunch of other CB's. There are some posters on the board interested in Nick Perry. I see Mike Neal is also a FA.

Completely agree. They have him playing a different role in Seattle that doesn't allow him to get after the QB. He is easily at 10+ (could be 15) sack guy if he is turned loose.

This would be a brilliant signing by the Cardinals in many ways.

Falcons are working on a deal with O'Brien Schofield. Hopefully this means they aren't going to continue their pursuit of Irvin.

Yea he has the speed and explosiveness were lacking. Add that to Buchanan's speed and it will help alot

Seattle isn't making an effort to bring him back...signing him would be helping them out. He has already said he would go back to Seattle if the money was close. Basically, he is saying "please take me back".

The Card's pursuit of Irvin makes more sense now after the recent updates on other pass rushing FA's.

-JPP taking less money to stay in NY.
-Cheifs sign Hali for 3 years before FA officially begins.
-Mario Williams being a questionable fit and likely getting over paid in Miami.

The cardinals have been in contact with these guy's agents so they have likely known these things were likely to happen for a while. So Brice Irvin is essentially the only available FA out there that can make a difference in pass rush.

I remember Irvin lining up and beating the heck out of Veldheer 1 on 1. So to say he isn't good isn't true. Nobody on the Cardinals current roster can win 1 on 1 against a top 15 left tackle, so he's an instant upgrade.

It is easy to a piece rather than what teams game plan against...the contract he is looking for isn't to win one on one battles, it is to be a premier pass rusher. He isn't.

We are not going to get a rookie at 29 where we draft that is going to be able to help this season fix the pass rush problem... we really do not have a choice because Irvin looks like LT compared to other players we currently have trying to get to the QB
