If Cowboys lose to the Eagles next week and the Colts the next, which is highly possible, are we in?

I think we need to win 1 game and we are in as a Wild Card.

If we win 2 and Seattle loses 1, and Green Bay loses 1, not only do we win the NFC West, we get the #1 seed.

Throw in any Arizona win, and we're good, even without the DAL-IND game. If the Cardinals lose all three, we should still be good with those two DAL losses, plus one SF loss (at SEA this week, perhaps) and a GB win at BUF (or as long as DET doesn't win the North, with GB at 10-6 with a loss to BUF).

Screw backing into the playoffs! Beat the Seahawks and one of the other two; take the division outright, simple as that.

Agreed CardLogic , we need to earn the damn thing . I hate the thought of pacing the floor , wringing hands , while waiting to see if team A can beat team B so that we can be in .

Let me clarify , I would do the pacing and hand wringing , but I sure as hell don't want to !!

It's a must win against Seattle for sure. Then we must win 1 more.

If the Cards lose the next 3 (not happening!), this would be the 1st time in history that a team had a 10 win season 2 years in a row and not make the playoffs either year.

Jim, that Cardinal math. I don't like it, but I am an expert in it over the years. I'd rather not this year. I agree with you. We're in a great position to earn it by our own merits.

If Dallas only reaches 10 wins and we don't win another game the rest of the way, we're in.
Philly would win the EAST and be in.
Green Bay wins the North
Detroit is a Wild Card as they will have either 10 or 11 wins.
The NFC South will be won by someone... :D
The West will be won by Seattle most likely with their 11 or 12 wins.
The Cards would be in as we own the tie-breaker with the Cowboys.

We would still need the 49ers to lose once, to either Seattle or San Diego.

Well that's a given. They might lose thrice.

Yea... I took it for granted that there is no way the 9ers will win out. They did activate Bowman today, but I gotta believe it's far too little and way too late.
At best the 9ers end up with 9 wins. That said, if they somehow go into Seattle this weekend and pull out the W, all bets are off!

Would love them to knock off the Seahawks Sunday.

I'm torn... obviously, what we do Thursday night means a ton. But if we lose Thursday, I'm kinda thinking it would be better for us if Seattle beat the 9ers.

no

we want the 49ers to exert the death rattle burst of energy and beat Seattle

the 49ers can then finish the season on two game slide

Like I said, I'm torn. If we lose Thursday night and:

- If the 9ers win, the 9ers are now just 2 games behind us with 2 home games left. Technically, if they win out they would be tied with us and I believe would own the tie-breaker... They would end up with an 8 & 4 conference record and we would end up at 7 & 5.
In this scenario, I think I would rather have Seattle win and definitely take the 9ers out of the playoff equation once and for all, while we take our chances at matching Dallas for the final wildcard slot...

- If Seattle wins, the 9ers are officially out of the post season and as I said above, it will come down to AZ, Dallas and Detroit for the 2 wildcard spots. As I mentioned previously, I believe Detroit (based on their pathetically easy schedule) will get to 11 wins. So they're in. Dallas's schedule is a bit more difficult than the Lions, but still much easier than ours. I think it's fair to assume that Dallas will notch at least 1 more win... They due host Indy in week 16 so I guess there is a shot that they can pull that one out. They finish @ Washington and we have to assume they win that game. But, I'm still thinking they top out at 10 wins. Which, if they do - we're in.

Anyway... when the 9ers and Hags play each other, it's impossible to cheer for one of them. And we'll have to see what we do Thursday night before we choose a side. But if we lose Thursday, I think I'll be rooting for a Seahawk victory.... :barf:

Either way, we will be one step closer no matter who wins that game against Seattle and SF. We have to win our game vs St Louie

If the 49ers win out and we don't win another game, they would indeed be ahead of us on division record (SF 3-3, ARI 2-4). SEA would win the West at 10 or 11 wins, while we would be in third place. We might also waste our tie-breaker edge against DET because we would have to wait behind SF in the tie-breaking procedures, just like what would have transpired last year between us, SF, and Carolina.

Just checking the math here , if we beat the Rams and the niners beat the hawks doesn't that give us a two game lead . If so why would I want the Hawks to beat the Niners ????

If we beat the Rams, SF cannot catch us, so of course we want SEA to lose.

However, the original question stated the we would have lost to STL on Thursday, making it less clear-cut.

Best Case Scenario: Cards Beat Rams and Whiners beat SheHags...That would gurantee Playoff Spot and Cards need to win 1 of final 2 games to claim division and--most likely--#1 Seed.

It would be awesome if we beat the Rams and the 9ers beat the Hags... But, if we win another game after that, getting us to 12 wins, that will most likely tie us with Green Bay (if the Packers don't go on to put up 13 wins). If we tie with Green Bay (just can't see that happening...), who owns the tie breaker in that scenario?
