Read speculation that the Dbacks might trade Hill. They've got to be in full sell mode at this point. Don't know what other assets the Dbacks would let go that might entice a contender.

I wonder if a contender would take a chance on Cody Ross as a throw-in. He needs a new start, with no pretense of being a starting outfielder.

I have no faith in Towers. Towers said he was offered a trade for Cahill, but he said Cahill is young and talented and just needs to work it out. :bang:

He's working on his throwing motion.

Heard Parra's name mentioned as trade bait as well... I guess with players like Pollack, Peralta and Inciarte, Parra can be expendable... None in that foursome are game changers so as far as I'm concerned, if Parra were gone it wouldn't mean a thing...

Ender Inciarte is batting .205 with a .233 on-base-% (3 walks in 88 plate appearances). When Pollock returns, Inciarte will not be a factor in the outfield.

Although Parra does not have the power of a corner outfielder, we need him until we can do better.

And if Gibson keeps batting our hottest hitter Peralta 7th or 8th, he is going to neutralize him.

Our record is still one of the worst in baseball, despite our recent "surge". The season is lost.

Hopefully with Gibson and Towers gone next season, we can begin to put together a functional team and use our players wisely.

You have a source? If true, that should be the final nail in Tower's coffin as I've read teams will wait until Cahill is released so they only have to pay him the minimum and ARZ gets stuck with the $17M left on his deal.

We absolutely should be sellers, and I think they should be looking to move everyone with the exception of Goldy and anyone under 25. However, Towers is a bumbling clown when it comes to trade negotiations so I'd hope that once they decide to dismantle that they let someone else do it.

As Parra, we dont need him. Yes, he is better than the other options we'd put out there, but we're a team thats going to lose 90+ games regardless of Parra being here or not. He is one of our few true trade assets on the roster, they should absolutely be looking to rebuild our farm system at the expense of a guy like him.

Agree, why are they keeping him as GM? The sooner they get rid of him the better we have to start the rebuilding cycle.

I keep hearing that Zeigler is the piece that that teams are calling about. There are VERY few players outside of Goldschmidt that I wouldn't consider dealing. If we can ship out Zeigler, Hill, Parra and convince somebody that they have to take Cahills or Cody Ross'contract in exchange for them, I'm all for it.

I'd rebuild with

1b - Goldy
2b - Owings
3b - Prado (crap)
ss - DD
C - Miggy
CF - Pollack
LF - Trumbo
RF - ?

ace - freeing up Hill, Cahill & Ross contracts, or at least a portion of them along with McCarthy coming off the books this off-season free up enough cash that we can go full force after David Price etc.

2. Corbin
3. ?
4. Miley
5. ?

Outside of the bullpen, which Collmenter can return to, that only leaves us with 3 real holes to fill.

I think Peralta has shown thus far that he could be worth an extended look-see as a starter. He's got a ton to learn - IIRC, he came up from double-A to the bigs and is a former pitcher. But I wouldn't mind seeing him as a starter in place of Parra...
Also, gotta have Chase Anderson in that rotation... He's certainly not overwhelming, but he's proven he can give you quality start after quality start. He's a very good candidate to be a consistent #4, maybe even a #3.

I think Trumbo has got to go, he has no position on this team. He is putrid in the outfield, and someone who needs a 1b or DH could actually have a use for him. As embarrassing as it will be to ship off a guy our idiot GM gave up so much to acquire its still something that needs to be done, the closer he gets to free agency and the more he sucks here the less value we will be able to get for him.

Prado also needs to go. Another freaking dumb dumb dumb trade. It stunning that we shipped off one of the best outfielders in baseball and in return got a glorified utility player... then tossed him 40 million bucks. I want to puke everytime I see him. But on top of all that he is simply lousy and considering his age his salary, getting him off the team should be out of the top priorities for our rebuilding club.

Miley can be shipped off too. He will probably land us as much as anyone we would put on the block outside of Miggy. He is young and on a small salary, but at the same time I dont see him improving from what we've seen the last few years. Miley might be the best of our current mess but he is hardly irreplaceable.

Speaking of Miggy... I dont think he will be traded, even though we could get a nice haul for him. Stryker Trahan looks like a complete bust, we have nothing remotely major league capable to replace Miggy if he gets shipped out. And while we dont NEED major league players right now catcher is a hard enough position to fill that a guy like Miggy is probably worth holding onto even during a rebuild. Unless they get a young promising catcher in return for one of these trades then I dont expect Miggy to get moved.

Shipping off everyone we're unhappy with sounds great until you realize you have to replace them. Easier said than done.

Peralta and Anderson look great so far, but same size is too small for me to put them on the list of those is count on

Its not about guys im unhappy with. Its about guys who would be more valuable as a trade piece than on our roster.

Of the guys I listed the only two I actually dislike are Trumbo and Prado, and both are easily replaceable. Prado because he is terrible, and Trumbo because he has no actual purpose on our roster in the first place.

Who would you replace trumbo and prado with?

It does not matter because they're both lousy. Trumbo has no position on this team, the guy is simply not an outfielder. He would have to be a superb hitter to make up for his total inadequacy in the field and he isnt, he isnt even an average hitter.

Prado is a mediocre player, making a lot of money and is on the wrong side of 30. Getting rid of him will be the difficult part, getting equal production from a replacement shouldnt be too hard.

I dont get the idea of sweating the "who steps in?" when talking about getting rid of guys who are simply a detriment. They're part of the problem. This is not about turning things around in one swift move, its going to take some time to repair the serious damage Towers has done to this team, but shipping off some of these pricy guys who cant pull their weight is an important step towards rectifying the situation.

I like your lineup minus Trumbo. He has atrocious defense in left field and his contribution on offense is not great enough to offset the runs he allows.

USA Today has a piece on the D'backs looking to ship some salary. (Can't provide link because I have insufficient post count)

Cliff notes version: don't expect to cash in on a scratch and dent sale.

http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...na-diamondbacks-sale-trade-deadline/11361909/

Kevin Towers has a new boss, but as he approaches his 18th trade deadline as a general manager, he says it's business as usual. And this year's business likely calls for the Diamondbacks to be selling off parts.

"Based on the last couple of years of being a .500 club and this year with the injuries we have and our record," Towers said, "we have to look at being more open-minded of moving some contracts and some veteran players for younger players."

During a recent three-day stretch, Diamondbacks coaches and executives — yes,new baseball czar Tony La Russa was involved — met to discuss the roster and put together a plan leading up to the deadline. In the coming days, Towers said the club's scouts will be looped in on a conference call.

I expect ARZ will get offers for Hill, Prado and a couple of RP's. There could even be a sucker GM willing to take Arroyo off our hands granted he isn't done for the rest of the year. Hell must be freezing over because rumor has it there are teams interested in McCarthy.
