The Charlie Trippi Half-Time Ceremony

I thought the entire Charlie Trippi half-time ceremony was first class. There was a nice film on Trippi's career with some narration by Bill Bidwill. This was followed by an on the field award and recognition of his Ring of Honor name & number being unveiled. Michael Bidwill was the MC and Larry Wilson also said a few words. I was glad that the fans showed respect by not booing any of the Bidwills and gave Trippi a nice ovation. He is 91 years old and this was his first visit to the stadium. I heard that he really wanted the Cards to win.

Tradition and the showing of respect for the history of the franchise is important to every team. This is how you continue to grow your fan base. It is also how you should treat the players who gave your franchise the many hours of hard work and dedication during their playing days. This is something that Whiz needs to learn-----instead of throwing his left overs to the trash pile when he is done with them.

Charlie Trippi is the entire reason I became a Cards fan. I grew up in western N.C. and moved to the northern Chicago Suburbs when I was about 11. Trippi came out of Georgia where I was born and was my instant hero even though I lived on the Bears side of Chicago. He and the Dream Backfield were something to behold in their day. I did not even know he was still living.

john h, Charlie Trippi wasn't the reason I became a Cardinal fan, but he was my first pro football hero. I remember seeing films of him (movie theatre) while he was still at UGA. A great, great runner, and kudos to the Cards for honoring him while he was still alive.

There was only one problem - they unveiled Trippi's name in the ROF as if it were being done for the first time. He was actually already in the ROF, perhaps since the opening of the stadium? Which makes sense, he deserved to be among the originals.
