Matt Leinart is really the only guy on that list that I can see as being young enough and talented enough to be a #1 QB for 10 years after the current starter goes. I like the fact that our backup QB is just as good as those guys and also our QBOF.

Volek btw is riding on one hot season 5 years ago. The last three seasons combined he is 4-12 with no TDs and one interception. Can you say Gary Hogeboom?

Did Redman play at all last year? There are no stats for him for 2008 on nfl.com and profootball-reference.com. But you have to like a guy who is in his 30s and is a former Arena League QB. :D
I'm not real high on Wallace but I have a hard time seeing past the Seahawk colors. Volek's a sentimental favorite for me and he does have ability but he's not a full time starter. Back to back 400+ yard games is a nice feather in his cap but he's shown that he can't sustain a high level of play over the course of many games.

I would agree that Leinart has the most potential to be a long time starter but I've really liked the little I've seen of Troy Smith. He hasn't played enough for a real opinion but my gut feeling is strong with him.

Redman didn't play much in '08 but in '07 got a handful of games at the end of the year after their coach quit and the whole Vick scandal was going on. He looked very solid with a shaken team and is at the very least a very good #2. He's still a question mark with his limited experience and time in Baltimore but he's looked good for Atlanta.

Do you have any idea why he has no stats at all on those two sites. Not even zeros just -- -- -- all the way across? Very weird.

After the '07 season I thought he had the Falcons job. Then they drafted Ryan and Redman was out. Also very weird. But that's the NFL.

I think the writer accidentaly left Matt out.

He ranked Vince young 21, then realized he forgot about Matt.

You can't have a Vince young discussion without matt's name. Likewise you can't have Matt leinart discussion without vince's name.

The 2 just fit so well together like peanut butter n jelly.

It's just a simple case of forgot about Matt, insert here!

Zeros may indicate that he played and did not accumulate stats, while - would mean did not play?

I think you are right. Brian St.Pierre's stat sheet for instance is nothing but morse code for 5 of his 6 nfl seasons.

PFR only goes to 2007 with Redman. That's the first place I noticed it. It makes you think that he was injured or something last year.
Probably just a quirk of the site. Ryan's the only QB listed on the roster for 2008, likely because he attempted every pass in 2008.

I truly believe, Leinart would start for some other teams. I think, he is a very good backup, and I am still pretty confident that he would one day be the starter, maybe even with Warner as the backup.

With his age and youth I can certainly see Leinart surpassing Warner in ability at some point but I gotta know what makes you think Warner would ever take a job as a backup? Sure, he would finish out a season if something happened but...I mean, you've been following the Cardinals the last 5 years, right?

I'll be very surprised if Kurt plays past this season if the Cards are successful in '09. I don't see KW as a Farve type guy at all.

But hey 40 is the new 30 in America, right? So you never know.

one play away from being the starter for the defending nfc champs. not bad shoes to be in. Matt will have his shot soon. I wish the best for warner and don't want to see him hurt this year. I'd like to see him go out strong like last year. he probably should be wearing another ring on his finger right now.

Troy Smith is dancing on getting dropped down the list. Most of his passes have been off tonight. Not radically off, but bad enough to make a person wonder.

Ah well, one preseason game does not a career make.

Personally I don't think even Warner's job should be considered safe. I'd like to see Leinart get time with the ones in one of the next two games. Fitz and Boldin can make Leinart look just as good as they did Warner, IMO.

Yeah, that's right. I said it.

Leinart didn't lead this team to the Super Bowl last year. :mulli:

Kurt Warner just signed a 2 year contract for starter money. You don't re-sign Warner and give Leinart the job for no reason. The offense has done pretty well against the 1st team of two of the best defenses in the league. Hightower even ran the ball well against the Chargers (imagine that).
He makes one bad pass and you are calling for Leinart??? WHAT A JOKE! :computer:

Let me clarify...
I think we should give the job to Leinart for no reason at all. Furthermore, I think one bad pass is enough to cost Warner his job.

Dude remove your head from Warner's posterior.

If KW's hip goes south we're going to be darn glad we have Matt Leinart ready to go and it would be a really good idea to have him take a few reps with the one's before they start playing for real.

Agreed, but to say Warner's job isn't safe at this point is silly. Matt Leinart should be ready to come in as a #2, but no way is he the #1 right now. He can also take reps with the 1st team as I don't see additional reps helping Warner much anyways.

Talk about a fall from grace. From being the #1 College Football quarterback, to being #22 on the backup QB list. I mean c'mon 22? Leinart is way better than that and i have a feeling that'll he'll do much better this season.

Hopefully he won't even need to play.

If Leinart doesn't start preseason game 4 Whisenhunt is going to drop a notch on my hero scale.

Anyway, nobody's job is safe in the NFL. It doesn't matter what you did last year or the last 10 years. If you stink it up you'll find the bench in no time.

Well unless you are a former Steelers player now on the Cards roster. :p
