ESPN now has it as well.

The Arizona Diamondbacks added a big bat Monday in their attempt to hold off the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West race. Arizona acquired Cincinnati Reds outfielder Adam Dunn, who is tied for the major league lead with 32 home runs, for three prospects.

The trade was first reported by KTAR Radio in Phoenix.
In exchange for Dunn, Cincinnati will receive minor league pitcher Dallas Burk and two other players to be named later.

Buck got a call from D-backs farm director A.J. Hinch, telling him he had been traded for Dunn. Buck, who was traveling with the Single-A Visalia Oaks, was already on the bus to San Jose, Calif., when Hinch called him. He had to tell teammates of the trade en route.

"It was kind of funny," Buck said, "because I was rumored to be in a deal for [Mark] Teixeira, so when I just told them they all thought I was messing with them."

Buck was drafted by Arizona in the third round of the 2005 draft. Once a top-notch prospect, Buck's draft status fell after had an elbow injury revealed on the eve of the '05 draft that bumped him out of a likely first-round slot. He had Tommy John surgery last summer and had begun pitching in Single-A this summer.

Dunn is tied with the Phillies' Ryan Howard for the NL lead with his 32 homers. The White Sox's Carlos Quentin also has 32 home runs.
Information from ESPN.com's Amy K. Nelson was used in this report.

Now maybe...

A) Melvin will make a lineup and freakin stick with it.

B) People here who complain about what the Diamondbacks DIDN'T do at the deadline and the fact that they lack the middle of the lineup hitter will now be silenced temporarily.

Make no doubt, Dunn brings something to the table that Arizona hasn't had for awhile. A feared middle of the lineup hitter. Reynolds is good, but he's hardly the type of guy who elicits fear to the point where you pitch around him.. Not yet anyhow.

Dunn IS that type of guy. CoJack, Dunn and Reynolds is a damn good 3-4-5 in that sense. Conor is the contact guy, Reynolds is a blaster and Dunn's the power.

One thing about Adam: he's all or nothing. His batting average generally is lower than most people here will like. However, depending on the prospects, it's worth the move.

ESPN just confirmed it. Dunn is batting .233. Not exactly the hitting we need although when he does connect he hits it far.

I hope Buck is the biggest prospect we gave up.. I really wanna know who the other two are before i can judge the trade. As of now, im pretty damn pumped that our lineup's got some pop now! (bummed about the Ks though) lol

I'd imagine Dallas is the biggest name in the deal in terms of players heading to Cincinnati. I think if there's any other bigger named prospects, they'd have been mentioned.

Maybe with ODogg hurt, they move Reynolds to second and Tracy to third, keeping Co-Jack in LF and Dunn at 1st? Or perhaps they put Dunn in LF and put Conor back at 1st?

Just speculating here.

I think he will play right field which means Romero might be sent to Tuscon when Upton gets back.

i do like Dunns OBP and OPS. If Jackson hits in the 3 spot in front of Dunn, he will get a ton more pitches to hit. Or put Jackson at 3, Reynolds at 4 and Dunn at 5. Then Cojack can continue to hit .300+, reynolds will see a lot more good pitches to hit with Dunn behind him.

Dunn isnt as feared as Manny, but he should make the rest of the lineup better with him there

Quite the logjam in the outfield. I imagine Sally goes back to Tucson today.

This is definitely awesome news! We needed to add a big bat to answer to the Dodgers acquiring Manny, and adding Dunn is definitely a plus. I am definitely happy. I know he strikes out a lot, but he hits homers and we need run production.

I'm confused, I thought that the trade deadline passed. How can we make this trade???? I'm happy for it, but how are we able to trade after the deadline?

A ha, ESPN didn't mention that he was on waiver, just said they traded for him.

Thanx

heres my batting order now with positions for now...

SS-Drew
1st-Jackson (he is not much of an RBI guy, but good at moving over, low Ks, high average)
3rd-Tracy (hopefully Drew nobody on first to stay out of DP)
2nd-Reynolds (High RBI)
LF- Dunn (Prototypical 5 hitter)
CF-Young
C-Snyder
RF-Romero

and once Upton gets back, just replacing Upton to RF

Drew
Upton
Jackson
Dunn
Reynolds
Tracy
Snyder
Young

If a team places a player on waivers and they clear, they can be traded past the deadline. It is a trade. If they palce a player on waivers and they are claimed, the team can pull them back if they wish and that why trades go through.
