I've bought every madden game from Madden 92 to madden 07, except for 94. I didn't buy 2008..it might have been better than 07, but not by much. The demo was alright, but nothing spectacular.
The pc version was the best since you could do more with it, download 3rd party rosters, use a mouse instead of a controller while messing around with the franchise, etc. Problem is, they decided to can the pc version from what I understand, unless they changed directions the last couple of months.
It is complete nonsense that you can have the only game in town, and not put it on pc.
I remember playing 99-06 version on the pc. The 99 to 2004 version on my 400mhz computer. Starting with an 8mb ati rage something and later a 64mb geforce 2 sdr.
Sure it said you couldn't play it based on specs in 02-04 (stating minimum 450 to 800 mhz requirements depending on the year), but you could and get a pretty good frame rate. Even when I got my then new computer I loaded 05 on my old computer to see if it worked, and it did.
Since the 05 version, little has changed graphics wise. Seems like the graphics have only gotten a tad better.
So you got a game series that in 10 versions barely passes the limits of a computer made 10 1/2 years ago and a video card that's 8-9 years old.
They couldn't get it past 30 fps on the ps3, and only in their 3rd year got it at 60 fps for the xbox 360.
It's like every 3-4 years they upgrade the game with a decent jump, but still not by much.
I won't say I hate madden, because I"ve had a lot of fun, but just like others said it definitely feels like they just update the rosters, change the music, and menu colors/layout, change some saying.. meanwhile recycling some of the same maddenisms for almost 10 years. Not worth the 60 bucks.
Maybe I'll buy 2010 version, that'll be 3 versions since the 2007 one, maybe by then it'll be enough of a jump to buy it.
Of course it the cards can ever say go 12-4 and have a 90 rating as a team I'll buy that game just so I can for once have a madden game with actual non-created, altered, traded, drafted in later years.
I used to play the piano, 4-5 years old, best in my yamaha class, picked it up real easy. But it just got boring. Meanwhile I had an Apple II around then my older siblings used before they left the nest. I was hooked. Taught myself using the apple II books, even made a little pizza ordering program in 3rd grade lol. Had some bugs, but hey, what can you expect.
Catalog
Run wavynavy
brun loderunner
or whatever, fun times
Then came nintendo, and you didn't have to type in anything...even easier, and quicker.
Don't play the piano, still can read the music, and know the corresponding keys on the piano, but it doesn't interest me much.
Yet I'll rack up kills on Halo 3, GRAW II, Rainbow Six Vegas II, UT3, Resistance fall of man, etc, etc, etc
The simplicity of the old games, the in-depth 3d graphics of the new ones. Continual improvement, new maps having different layouts always keeps it fresh. Each game is a unique experience for the most part, but although there are billions or trillions of combos a piano's music can provide, it seems like the same old thing. Nothing wrong with that at all, just I chose to like video games over the piano. The addition of playing mp games over the last few years over high speed internet has added a great amount of replay-ability of games. I don't have a wii, but that upped the notch as well too. You never know quite what to expect, or where the industry will take you, but you know you are in for a hell of a ride, and things will come out and surprise you every few years.
So back to madden, when a game doesn't do that really, or seems to get better at a snails pace when the rest of the industry is like a rabbit, it's easy to see why people turn away from it en masse.
Last thing I want is to have EA buy out rockstar. You could bet gta v, vi, vii over the next 10 years would be mirror images of GTA IV. Make your own shoddy games, and leave people that try to push the envelope alone. We don't need their suckiness infecting the rest of the gaming industry.
Sad too because EA came out with some of the best games of the 80's.
LSL was a great game, I loved answering the questions to be 18 when I was like 11 lol. They have one on the pc, and are making another one for release sometime in the next few months or year. It's 3d now so some of the original charm is gone, but it's still pretty good.
