To answer the original question. One item few recognize. SLC has an elevation advantage over every other city in the NBA save Denver. SLC is at 4300 feet, Denver at 5200 feet.

Its enough to slow you down some, but not enough that you would quickly recognize why.

I don't think that elevation really bothers NBA players like it does NFL players. The difference in cardio-pulmonary efficiency can be significant between these types of athletes. I think pulmonary circulation is more developed in endurance style athletes. Basketball is mostly constant running and jumping and such. Football is mainly short bursts of strength and effort. I could be wrong though.

Plus, it doesn't take long to acclimate to that kind of elevation gain. But it depends on the person.

All I know is when I used to play lacrosse, teams from the US and Canada would all meet in Albuquerque for an annual tournament, and even the canadian teams would bring oxygen tanks on the sidelines and player rotation times were crazy short.

Well there you go, then. Lacrosse, that's pretty much all running all the time.

I guess because I haven't had any trouble with elevation (climbing, trekking, etc.) I don't see the big deal. I attributed it to my cycling days but it just might be genetic.

Y.J.G.S'd:
LaCrosse...wasn't Jim Brown supposedly one of the best lacrosse players EVER?
Or is it because Jim Brown is probably the only American lacrosse player the average joe can name on command?

jim brown was a great lacrosse player at syracuse... yes. but the reason why utah is hard is because its the only stadium filled with completely white people that also happen to be mormons.

Thats true but why would that make it tough? From what i know, the arena seating is designed so that the crowd is right on top of you thus making it hard to feel "comfortable" as the visiting team.
