Of course Amare is better but why is it that the guy he's guarding always has a career night?

They put up a graphic at one point that said Amare 10-13, guys Amare is guarding 10-13.

It depends who he's guarding, but usually it's amare. I know his defense isn't great, but his ability to finish at the rim is what makes him a true elite player. he is a good shooter and needs some work with his iso-play....if he can improve in that regard he'll be that much better. I think steve nash being so dominant with the offense....has hindered amare's development in that regard somewhat.....but they are so dominant together(the pick and roll with amare finishing above the rim so it really doesn't matter so much). am I wrong here for that thinking? someone please tell me because I wouldn't consider myself an expert on the suns.

I will use the mavs as an example. before nash broke out with dallas finley was a great offensive force. he was able to penetrate and was very effective one on one. when nash took control of the offense it seemed as if finley turned into an outside shooter. for that same token dirk never played the way he does now when nash was on the team. dirk was rarely a creator...though he showed potential. now he's a much different player.

Amare has the best handles and is the fastest off the dribble of any big man in the NBA. Some opposing fans just say he "finishes at the rim", thats like saying Dirk shoots well, a weak description. Amare stoudemire is the best offensive PF in the NBA because he is quick, strong, has major hops, is fast off the dribble, and shoots very well. What amare is not is a back to the basket PF, a good passer, or a good man to man defender. Amare stoudemire didnt make all first team NBA because suns fans wrote him in, national sportswriters did it, and not because he "finishes at the rim". I certainly think those writers have more credibility than visiting fans of other teams wanting to pimp their guy, HAHA, make me laugh! Watching amare blow by Tim Duncan and dunk on him in the last game repeatedly shows that speed does matter, that Duncan cant guard him one on one, he's not quick enough. (Duncan is the best center in the NBA, but his defensive forte is not man to man but help defense, and no center is better than TD at that.) Dirk Nowitski is really a SF offensively, as his "in the lane game" is very much like a SF, not a PF. But I think Dirks unusual skills(at 7') create one of the most difficult matchups in the NBA, he is just not a PF offensively.

Please look at what Amare has done against opposing power forwards since the Shaq trade and then get back at me. He is scoring a lot more than the opposing power forward and he has outrebounded most of them including Garnett.

What a weird poll question!
Is there any doubt that Amare is the best scoring big whether at 4 or 5 in the NBA? He shirks some on defense so that some of the opposing bigs get huge nights on him from time to time, but he is still outscoring them in all games maybe with exception of Rasheed. So, what's your real question?

Astute observation. That's why I used to say "Less (of Nash dominating the ball) is more" for the Suns team's long term outlook around the franchise player Amare. And Shaq's addition forced this on DA and Nash. Nash himself admitted that he now had more energy to play defense by not dribbling the ball as much to create the offense. With added responsibility, I'm sure Amare will be even more eager to improve his defense and rebounding plus back-to-basket moves in the offseason to win an MVP the next couple of seasons.

While I can appreciate the intent of the thread (to point out how horrible Stat can be on defense at times), it lacks the respect and awe that should be occurring on the outright dominance Amare has enjoyed while playing along Shaq. Amare is the better offensive threat - in the league. I know what Kobe and Lebron do, but how many shots does it take them to do it?
