Are you prepared to see 16 teams punch their tickets to the Sweet 16 today??

With the women’s basketball tournament wrapping up the Round of 64 on Saturday, that gives us eight Round of 32 games for both the women and the men today. Even better: The women’s tournament is starting a new game on the hour, every hour, from 11am through 3pm. That’s a nice counterbalance to the men’s tournament giving just one game at a time until about halftime of the St. John’s/Kansas game. No matter what, there’s at least one other game going on for you in case something decides to sideways on us like the Michigan/Saint Louis game did with about eight minutes left on Saturday afternoon.

Added bonus with the women’s tournament: Since there were no upsets back on Friday, that means every single game today will be with the better seeded team playing host to their opponent. Maryland at North Carolina, NC State at Michigan, and so on and so forth. The men’s games might be fun and great neutral court environments, but they don’t get the extra possible spice of someone pulling a stunner on someone else’s floor.

We’re going from 11am Central time today through about 12 hours later, as Alabama/Texas Tech for the men and TCU/Washington for the women will get started right around 9pm and run for two-ish hours. Is it a long time? Sure, but this is the last day of the year like this. There’s eight more women’s games tomorrow, sure, but nothing like the last four days have been until next March.

On the Big East side of things, we’ve got St. John’s and UConn from the men’s tournament in action. The Red Storm get Kansas at 4:15pm this afternoon, while we get Dan Hurley vs Mick Cronin in an Angry-Off at 7:45pm when the Huskies face UCLA.

Here’s the full men’s & women’s tournament schedule for the day, with all times Central, as always.
