The New York Yankees have not received great production from their catchers this season.

Austin Wells is having a terrible year at the plate, and backup J.C. Escarra hasn't been much better.

Escarra was sent down to Triple-A, and Ali Sanchez was promoted less than a week into June. Directly after, Wells was placed on the injured list with cervical headaches.

When Wells returned, the Yankees kept Sanchez, a right-handed hitter, instead of Escarra on the roster.

In 10 games with New York, Sanchez has hit .316 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in 21 trips to the plate.

According to MLB.com's Bryan Hoch, Escarra is back with the Yankees' Major League club on Tuesday, and Sanchez was placed on the paternity list.

Sanchez exited Monday night's game against the Detroit Tigers after taking a 98 mph fastball from Drew Anderson on the wrist.

"X-rays were negative, but Sánchez was headed for a CT scan postgame to determine if there was any damage," the New York Post's Greg Joyce wrote.

Yankees fans will likely have a better idea of the severity of Sanchez's injury when he returns from the paternity list.

With the trade deadline approaching, the Yankees are rumored to be targeting a right-handed hitting catcher.

Sanchez bats from the right side, but he does not have the offensive track record as many of the potential trade candidates at the position.
