Xbone DVR currently in testing

Well, the TV DVR functionality is coming, at least. Microsoft is now internally testing an update for Xbox One called “Xbox One Threshold Beta 1603 System Update,” or th2xboxrel_1603.160308-1900. This update allows the console to record freely-available OTA TV, and it even works while you’re playing games, watching live TV, or when the console is sleeping.

However, the software will reportedly not work with encrypted videos from satellite or cable TV providers, at least not in the U.S.
Thurrott does not offer a specific timeframe for when this update should roll out and add DVR functionality to the Xbox One, but says it should become available soon enough. We'll keep you in the loop as soon as more information comes to light, so stay tuned.

big update for me too as someone without cable, especially if I go to some games this year it would be real nice to be able to come home and watch it on TV too.

Or if I want to camp and not have to be home by 11, can just have it recording and keep my phone off to avoid updates.

FYI it should require a separate hard drive just for DVR for those interested. You can get 2TB external drives for under $100.

As a cord cutter with an xbox, this thing is awesome. So nice to have a guide for television again and to not have to change from a singular input. I also run different stuff through my hdmi in passthrough so everything is on one input these days.
