Wyndham Clark lost a six-shot lead Sunday at Shinnecock Hills but didn't lose the U.S. Open.
Clark parred the 72nd hole to beat Sam Burns by one stroke. It was Clark's second U.S. Open victory in four years, having also prevailed at Los Angeles Country Club in 2023.
After making a 24-foot birdie putt on the par-5 16th to claim a two-shot advantage, Clark bogeyed the par-3 17th to enter the last hole one up on Burns. Clark hit the green in two on the par-4 18th and two-putted from 52 feet for the victory.
Clark shot 3-over 73 to finish at 4 under. Burns fired 67 to post 3 under. Tom Kim (70) finished alone in third place at 1 under. Sunday was his 24th birthday.
Scottie Scheffler, who celebrated his 30th birthday during the final round, shot 1-over 71 to finish four back at even par.
