Liv Morgan and Iyo Sky started the weekend off fast Saturday at WWE SummerSlam 2026 Night 1 in U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis. In the end, Morgan had to pull out all the stops in order to retain her Women's World Championship in a thriller.
Morgan pushed Sky right into the corner as the match started, taking control and posturing to the crowd. Sky rallied back in the early going by smashing Morgan in the corner with a handstand double knee drop in the corner.
They kept the pace high, as things spilled outside. Sky got ahead of herself by greeting the fans and standing on the barricade, only for Morgan to trip her feet out from under her. Morgan regained control and stomped out Sky once back in the ring.
Morgan hit Sky with the Three Amigos, getting the crowd going. Sky reversed to gain momentum with a lift-up knee drop before she hit a missile dropkick and her point emote. The crowd went wild, as usual.
Sky seemingly was nearing the finish after hitting the bullet train knee attack. Morgan attempted to escape outside of the ring, and instead took a big Sunset Flip Powerbomb.
Just as Sky had an Over the Moonsault lined up, The Judgment Day's Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez arrived to distract and interfere. Sky got chokeslammed by Rodriguez off the top rope, but still kicked out, then hit a Moonsault on the outside onto Perez and Rodriguez. Morgan greeted her with a unique head scissors facebuster through the ropes on the re-entry into the ring.
Morgan climbed the rope for some big offense and was countered by an avalanche Spanish Fly.
After a strike exchange, Sky connected with an Angel's Wings and big backbreaker. Sky nearly got hit with an Oblivion when going for the bullet train knee attack, then it was Sky who hit Oblivion for one hell of a near-fall.
Sky wanted Over the Moonsault again, but missed and ate a diving Codebreaker for another near-fall. Sky countered an Oblivion with a huge German Suplex on the apron, followed by a sickening bullet train attack into the ring post. Over the Moonsault came again, but Morgan got her feet up and fell into a pair of Oblivions with a Codebreaker in between to give Morgan the win — her first title defense since she won the belt at WrestleMania.
