We now have 2 second round linebackers on our roster from the 1997 draft...

darling - 57th overall pick by philadelphia
greg jones - 51st pick overall by the redskins.

Trev Faulk

And Trev Faulk was listed as a first team college linebacker by some publications when he was at L.S.U.

seems faulk was not drafted..signed on with denver originally..was he injured as a senior?

Fortunately, seems one infamous 2nd rounder (rutledge) is not returning..

No. He didn't have good workouts  even though he played against the top competition in college (SEC).

I was looking stuff up because I got the crazy idea that we have a decent linebacking group with depth...I have now further convinced myself...I would bet this is one position we will take 0 players at in the draft (unless it is tweener type defensive end/lb who can rush the passer off of the edge).

we have 9 linebackers on the roster (excluding frederickson - although he is still listed). What will we keep - 6 or 7? so.. assume the guy in NFL europe now (burton) is cut in camp..we still have to cut one or 2 more guys of the following group: Faulk, fisher, young, jones, thompson, woods, mckinnon, darling.

This is already a super competitive position and training camp is a few months out! obviously we will not cut darling, mckinnon, thompson or fisher..

We did a fine job at the end of last season adding guys (faulk and jones)...

:)

Yeah, that's why, every year they (SEC) usually have the most guys drafted in the first round, win most of their bowl games, and have more teams in the top 25 than any other competition.

The Big 12 and Big Ten are OK, but nowhere close to as competitive as the SEC. The SEC main recruiting ground is the south, and more good to great players come from the south than any other region.

Texas and Florida are the powerhouses when it comes to producing football players.

The SEC, Big 12 and Big Ten are the top three conferences. The SEC used to be a clear number one, but the Big 12 really doesn't have to take a backseat to them IMO. And, just a few years ago, the Big Ten seemed to really be slipping, but that conference has seemed to improve lately.

Well it is kind of cyclical, but I think if you look through out the past ten years, the SEC is the best.

Until we see how maybe Faulk and Darling do in the middle backing up Ronnie Mac, I wouldn't object to adding one more big ol' MLB draft pick.

Note - On ESPN, they showed some more footage on Henderson - this time stuffing runners in goal line situations. Man oh Man! I still think he's Top 5 material, and can't understand why he isn't at least up there with the Trufants and Kevin Williams. He's projected to go somewhere in the second half of the first round at best. (Side by side - I think Henderson's pre-draft footage looks better than Urlacher's did).

And for those of you who are into workouts - it's not the numbers holding back Henderson. He's run in the high 4.6's - low 4.7's.

It's a injury concern. Every draft publication that I've read have him dropping because of his back injury.
