You probably already know the names Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin. They're among the most decorated ski racers in history.
But what about Marco Odermatt or Lucas Pinheiro Braathen?
You'll probably be hearing a lot more about them too with the 2026 Milano Cortina Winter Games just around the corner. But how difficult have their individual journeys been as they've set their sights on the ultimate prize: an Olympic gold medal?
ESPN's new Original Series, "On the Edge: World Cup Ski Racing" looks to tell those stories – and more.
Premiering Friday, Jan. 30 on the ESPN app and ESPN on Disney+, the five-episode series follows the world’s most elite ski racers across the 2025-26 season, up to and including the 2026 Olympics.
Directed by Emmy Award-winning filmmaker Pat Dimon, the series "follows Olympic champions – including Mikaela Shiffrin, Lindsey Vonn, Marco Odermatt, Lucas Pinheiro Braathen and more – as they navigate the dramatic landscapes of Europe and North America on the Audi FIS Ski World Cup circuit," according to an ESPN release.
In addition, "(t)he series explores their personal journeys, on and off the snow, and the culture of the sport as they endure the grind of a global season all in pursuit of Olympic gold."
The journey goes far beyond fresh powder, elite competition and international fame. Dimon says he was taken by "the grind of travel, the toll of injuries, the pressure, and the mindset it takes to be and stay at that level."
The series features not only Vonn and Shiffrin, but many other top racers from around the world.
"Our athletes operate on the edge of human performance every time they step into the start gate," says Sophie Goldschmidt, President & CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, "and this series captures the speed and risk required to chase Olympic dreams."
The first three episodes will be available on Jan. 30, followed by another one on Feb. 6. The concluding episode will be available on April 10.
