......the Cardinals now have their first African American QB (all due respect to Shedrick Bonner's 2 games on the bench) and honestly I can't think of many remaining teams that haven't had one.

Not like it really matters, I mean you always want the best man for the job regardless of color or age or whatever, but it's just interesting to note how much things have changed in a short time. In 1987, I remember as a kid watching all the super bowl coverage and hearing over and over how weird and unique it was that Doug Williams was the first black super bowl QB and now 15 years later it's total commonplace and barely worth mentioning anymore. The sterotype about black athletes not being able to play QB really died during the 1990s.

Interesting question...which teams have not had a Black starting QB?

If memory serves:

New England Patriots
Indianapolis Colts
Buffalo Bills
Cleveland browns
Houston Texans
Jacksonville Jaguars
Denver Broncos
San Diego Chargers
San Francisco 49ers
New York Giants
Green Bay Packers

This list was much longer back in 1987, so I guess one could say that progress has been made.

When did Jimmy "The Greek" make his infamous comments about African-Americans not "having the capacity" of running an offense as a QB?

The chargers briefly started Moses Moreno and Jacksonville started David Garrard this year.

Might want to add Seattle to your list.

Cheating, but Freddie Solomon started a game at QB for the 49ers due to injuries.

I think you need to add Seattle, KC, and the Rams to that list ..... I cannot remember a black QB playing for them. We should also give the Texans a couple of years under their belt. we could scratch Houston entirely if we count the Oilers with Moon.

Seattle and KC both had Warren Moon. The Rams had Tony "small hands" Banks. The Niners, on a technicality, should be removed as should Jacksonville. And I think Moses Moreno is a hispanic.

The Rams had one of the first black QB's (maybe the first?).....James Harris. That was in the 70s.

But did he start? I remember Pat Haden getting all the snaps back then...

The Bears had Vince Evans in the late 70's or early 80's--I can't remember the exact time frame, but it was before McMahon (so pre-1984). I think he went on to play in Oakland. So you can add those two teams to the list.

But, I don't know if Denver ever started a black QB--I know they have Jerius Jackson, but did he start in replacement of someone?

No dude, the list is of teams that haven't started a black QB.

Is this tread making me sound racist? I'm not of course, I have plenty of African-American, Hispanic, and Asian friends. No Irish of course, i do have my standards! :D

It's not making you sound racist at all. It's a very interesting commentary on the attitudes at the college level.

In the past, colleges ALWAYS converted black QBs to other positions because the widespread belief was that blacks were athletes and not QBs. Now, kids get to college and the colleges don't automatically change their position, so the trickle down effect has brought black QBs to the NFL in numbers.

Hell, the "racism in the NFL" aspect of the argument is ludicrous given that not a single one of the NFL's 64 starting cornerbacks is white. There are far more black QBs percentage-wise than there are white players at many other positions.

Actually, I think that two years ago was kind of the Year of the Black QB. I remember watching FOX's NFL Pre-Game show and Terry Bradshaw went off every week on how great all the black QBs were. Remember, that was the year of Kordell, Donnie McNabb (still the most overrated QB in all of football, since the sudden and predictible decline of Kurt Warner), Daunte Culpepper (before he regressed), Aaron Brooks came from nowhere into the starting job in Naw'lins (stealing it from the Cards new starting QB), McNair had brought the Titans within two yards of winning the Super Bowl a couple years before, Vick was making amazing spot appearences and was the talk of the NFL, wasn't Tony Banks starting for the Washington Redskins under Schottenheimer?

That was the "coming out party" for the black QBs.

True, and I can't think of a better argument against racial quotas and affirmtaive action. While the NFL is NOT the open job market, it shows how opportunities arrive from ability not politics. No coach at any level (at least nowadays) would ever restrict a player's position choices based upon race.

Everyone wants to win!

Except the Irish! :D

McNugget usually gets my vote.

Garcia usually comes in second.

Yes, Banks has started at least a couple of games for every team he has played for: Rams, Redskins, and Ravens.
