Former Wisconsin guard John Blackwell's transfer recruitment is reportedly down to Illinois and Duke, according to 247Sports' Travis Branham.
Branham took to X to update the status of Blackwell's recruitment, noting that "Duke could be looking to replace a big-time scorer in Isaiah Evans, if he declares for the draft, whereas Illinois is looking to reload its backcourt with Keaton Wagler expected to enter the NBA draft and Kylan Boswell out of eligibility. It's notable that [Blackwell's] father played at Illinois."
Blackwell entered the portal earlier this month after three impressive seasons at Wisconsin. The 2025-26 campaign was by far his best; he averaged 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists and 1.1 steals in 33.8 minutes, helping to lead the team's backcourt.
247Sports currently ranks the now-former Wisconsin standout as the No. 2 overall player in the transfer portal and the top shooting guard. Given that ranking, it's no surprise that two top programs are the favorites to land his commitment.
