William Reynolds of the McDonough County Special Recreation Association won two medals at the Special Olympics Illinois Regional Track and Field Competition in Galesburg.

Reynolds earned medals in both the softball throw and the 800-meter walk, according to a community announcement. He is coached by Amber Esquivel, a graduate student at Western Illinois University, and Jeremy Robinett, director of the WIU School of Communication, Media and Experience Industries.

The event took place April 26. State Rep. Dan Swanson attended the opening ceremonies and posed for a photo with the participants.

The McDonough County Special Recreation Association organizes Special Olympics programming in the area, providing opportunities for athletes of all abilities to train and compete.

“Congratulations, William Reynolds for winning the 800m walk and the softball throw. Your determination and continuous training proved valuable, helping you achieve victory. You set the highest standards for ‘Let me win. But if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt,’” Daniel Swanson, Illinois House Representative said, according to the announcement.

Special Olympics Illinois Region F hosts regional competitions that bring together athletes to showcase their skills and dedication.
