The Vegas Golden Knights are down a key forward in William Karlsson after the 33-year-old left in the second period of Game 5 due to an apparent injury.
On Thursday, the Golden Knights took on the Carolina Hurricanes in Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final, with the series tied 2-2 in an incredibly chaotic series. After a 1-1 first period, the Hurricanes exploded for two goals in the second frame to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. However, perhaps even more consequentially for the Golden Knights, Karlsson took a hard hit from Hurricanes defenseman Sean Walker and left in the middle of the second period.
During a battle for the puck behind the Hurricanes net, Walker crashed into Karlsson with a shoulder check to the upper body area. Though what looked like a routine dust up, Karlsson was in pain on the Golden Knights bench before he headed off to the Vegas locker room.
ESPN then reported in the third period that Karlsson had left the arena to get additional medical attention.
We'll just have to wait and see what Karlsson's status is for the rest of the Stanley Cup Final.
Coming into Thursday night, Karlsson had three goals and nine points in 14 playoff games this year for the Golden Knights.
The Stanley Cup Final will shift back to Las Vegas for Game 6 on Sunday at 8 p.m. ET.
